And the smoking ban hell continues....
« on: September 26, 2006 - 07:08:29 PM »
http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/09/26/trans.fat.ban.ap/index.html

Trans-fat is killing the nations children so we must ban them from all kitchens!!! Next week it'll be salt, then twinkies, then television....

This is beyond ridiculious. Someone needs to step the hell up and put these politian and goodie-two-shoe health activists back into their place - under a rock!

That is carrying it a little too far to ban a type of oil.  But, I really enjoy the restaurant smoking ban here in Georgia!

They want us to stay alive to pay taxes longer. Also not to cost them taxes in health care costs.

Oh man, if they find out we're going to live longer and be healthier, they'll probably change the retirement age to something like 80  :swear: , little do they know my Grandma is about to be 90! I might still have a chance at retirement.  :bananasmi

Also not to cost them taxes in health care costs.

Little baby steps to ban all things.

Because we don't know  how to protect ourselves.

The next thing will be a class action law suit against the makers of the oil.

I was in Italy this summer, and you would be suprised on the bans they have. We don't have it that bad here, and the smoking ban is great. I had it with stinking like an ash tray when I went out to eat.

If you chose to enter a resturaunt that allows smoking you have already given up your right not to smell like an ashtray. Complaining about it is you infringing on everyone else right who knew it was a smoking establishment BEFORE agreeing to shop there.

True application of rights is chosing not to risk your own health by entering in the first place, not the other way around.

It's not that I wanted to risk my health, the law in Florida at the time allowed smoking in resturants. Even sitting in a nonsmoking section, you could still smell smoke. If people want to wreck there health by smoking that's there right. But why should people who live healthy lives have to smell that garbage when they want to eat out. That's our right.

That is a little too much.  I would be for posting the nutrition facts some where, but the choice needs to be given to individuals.

Before Georgia become a non-smoking state, every restaraunt had smoking in it.  With the above logic, I would not be able to choose any restaurant and be healthy.  Somehow, I don't think that's right.

No, your right is to complain to the management of the establishment and let them chose whether or not they wanted to make changes for you - thats Capitalizm in its finest form. Electric vehicles failed miserable in California depsite a law being made forcing automakers to make them, why? Because the public voted with their cash. You had the same option, but instead chose to allow the government to make the choice for you, which in turn infringed on everyone else's rights. Was it fair that some business owners lost their jobs and homes because you needed to get the state involved instead of speaking your peace up-front? I have two close personal friends who would love to know seeing as they both had to close up shop after the initial hit here.

Before Delaware started the smoking ban there were several local resturants that implimented no-smoking policies. Did they lose business? Hell yes, but their customers were very content and the smokers all found new homes. Everyone was basically happy. Now you have laws being prepped where if you smoke you cannot get a job with the state of California, you cannot buy foods in NYC with Transfat, and there was another out west that wanted to fire fat people because they raised health costs.

I guess you and I will just have to agree to disagree.  I take it you're a smoker.  As for Georgia, it's been over a year since the law's been in effect.  I don't believe any business has closed down because of it.  The only restaurants allowed to have a smoking in them are the sports bars...which seems to be working out just fine. Food tastes great, my hair doesn't smell like smoke for days, and my eyes don't burn.  For me personally, it's a positive situation.

 :iagree:

Smoke stinks, Mass is smoke free as well for a few years now.  I grew up in a smokers household, had probs w/childhood ahsma(sp) etc.  I don't smoke now and don't allow anyone who does to do so in my house.  I get to take my kids to restaurants as well.  Even the private clubs in MA can't allow smoking now.
