That is a little too much.  I would be for posting the nutrition facts some where, but the choice needs to be given to individuals.
I like nasty french fries and buffalo wings!

I see it as a public health issue...that stuff is poison and most people don't realize it, and manufacturers to their best to hide it.  We can survive without tran fats and the benefits far outweigh the negatives...IMO.

Dan - so you see it as a way to protect the stupid people in the world from killing themselves? Why bother?

I have not had a cigarette in over 6 mths. now. I NEVER thought I would be able to kick the habit after 27 years. I tried several times, but the last straw was I had to quit because of my health. I can smell a smoker 50 yds. away now. It stinks like hell. I never thought I would be able to quit and not miss it!! There's hope for anyone wanting to quit!! :grinyes:

congrats dave!!
as a lifetime non smoker (I took 1 puff at 8 , never again!) I cant stand the smell of smoke, however ive gotten used to it. there are a few towns in the area where smoking is banned in bars, even tho i hate the smoke I dont believe in this, drinking and smoking are both terrible habbits (I do drink plenty) But banning smoking KILLS bars, now we are taking away somebodys ability to make a living, I dont believe in that. individual towns shuld not be able to make such laws, people just drive the extra 4 miles to the next town! even as a non smoker if i go to a bar and nobody is there, im going to leave. if the state makes such a law then you have some areas this still happens, sometimes it can be worse .people just go into the next state. I for 1 realise that the world does not revolve around me, I have the choice of going to non smoking bars or smoking bars. I will go into a smokey bar with people around before I go in a empty bar that smells better.

So you don't see where the human race would be better off w/o trans fats in there food?  Like I said before...the manufacturers go to great lengths to hide and disguise the existance of trans fats in the product so yes...I would be for a ban...for the sake of "stupid" people and the uninformed.  I regard it as a public health risk.  I bet a bunch of family members and cancer victims would like to have been better informed of the risks of smoking before they started smoking years ago.

I'm not a smoker and never have been one.

I think it's fine if others choose to smoke but I can't stand the smell or cigarettes, and don't want to be subjected to the health risks assosiated with them. No smoking sections in buildings and resraunts are and were a joke, smoke doesn't pay any attention to where you sit, it goes anywhere it likes which is generally directly towards anyone who hates it  :grinyes:

It's kind of funny, the smoking bans seem to have followed me around in the past 10 years. Back in the early 90's the ban came into effect in California (While I lived there). It was an amazing change! It was actually pleasant to sit and enjoy dinner out or a night at the local pub without the smoke all around you doing untold damage to your body, not to mention stinking up your clothing, etc. Shortly after the ban I moved to Utah where I lived for 7 years, while there the ban was put into effect there as well, and a year after I moved to Washington the ban here was effected! What are the odds?   :clapping:

Concerning businesses losing customers.......Yes, absalutely, they did, but in MOST cases those customers were replaced by more new non smoking customers exceeding what they had before by a good margin. There's one local bar here in Spokane that's been here for 30 years, nice little community watering hole with plenty of TV's for current sporting events, etc. They started serving food (GOOD food and CHEAP!) so more and more people ate there. Problem was that the place was always FILLED with smoke, you would reek of it just from walking through and leaving. For that reason many non smokers would avoid the place. I went there allot before, during, and after the ban, after the ban was voted in (like by a 75% margin of victory BTW) there was a period before it was actually enforced, you should have heard all the smokers grumbling about how the place would go under soon after because they would no longer be there to support the place, etc. Guess what? A year after the ban the place is actually thriving and it's actually a pleasant experience to sit there and eat or have a drink, the owner said his business has INCREASED at least 20%.

That was a big concern for the resturant business in south Florida and a even bigger concern for the resturants on South Beach. When the ban went into effect, nothing was effected. Everything is still packed, and never slowed down. I wish it went into effect many many years ago, my father may have quit, and could have still been alive.

The building/Fire code (International) that most states are under allready bans it...most places just will not enforce it.  I wish SC would enforce it strongly

That is carrying it a little too far to ban a type of oil.  But, I really enjoy the restaurant smoking ban here in Georgia!

I think the public enforces it more than anything else around here.  If someone lights up in the middle of a restaurant, they can be sure that 20 people around them will politely tell them to put it out.
