M88   Quater Panel Tape Treatment

...So says the online decoder but it's wrong, it's really for the rear bright trim.

M88 on an E-body is rear deck lid (chrome) moulding, M88 on a B-body is the quarter panel tape treatment, this common code for two different trim options on two different body lines IS confusing leading many to assume that M88 on an E-body is the Billboard or Hockey-stick stripe (which of course is V6*), the * denoting the color of stripe.

For the record a strobe stripe is only availabe on '70 'Cudas after Feb. and only in a few colors, the code is:

V4X: Black strobe stripe (no restriction on body color)
V4W: White strobe stripe (no restriction on body color)
V4J: Chartruse strobe stripe (only available on Sassy Grass cars) only one known to exist
V4M: Magenta strobe stripe (only available on Moulin Rouge cars) only five known to exist

If alternate color options are available let me know but to my knowledge this is accurate.

I had asked this question a while back and was told that it was the deck lid moulding treatment as well. I have a 70 cuda that has the m88 code but doesn't have the "deck lid moulding treatment", another member had the same issue. I was told that on a 70, the m88 code (cuda) was for the chrome strip on the tail panel. On later models, m88 is the "deck lid moulding treatment" -- (this is the chrome that is on the edge of the deck lid and also on the back of the quarter panels (where it meets the tail panel))....  I have seen cars on ebay that state that m88 is the 1/4 tape treatment, I don't know where they got that from.........

So it would stand to reason that M88 on an E-body could only be a Plymouth as decklid (or quarter) trim was never an option for the Challenger, whether in separate pieces or as part of the rear "SE" trim panel.

Maybe someone has a Dodge E-body with M88 on the Fender Tag? Otherwise seeing one with M88 on the Fender Tag should raise a red flag :nono:

Just a theory :2cents:

Barry, did i get this one right  :thinkerg: :) :thinkerg:

M88 as far as E-Bodies go is Cuda only, with one exception, (that I know of) Barracudas with front and rear rubber bumpers came with M88 as well.

In 1970-71 the M88 molding was called "Deck molding treatment".

For 1972-1974 it was called "Deck lid molding treatment", note the difference?

Here are some photos, I do not have one from 1972 to show, but these should help;

Sorry for bringing up such an old topic...but my AAR has M88 on the tag...does this mean I have a rear rubber bumper, or just the trim around the tail panel...I thought front and rear rubber bumpers were only on red cars..or some other color..not blue..?? This just cought my attention after reading this old topic...
I'm assuming it's just the trim..?
Thanks!

AARudy, M88 is the belt moulding, A21 is the rubber bumper and can be ordered in any high-impact color not just red.

A21 is the front rubber bumper.

A22 is both front & rear rubber bumpers.

All 1970 Cuda's had M88 regardless of bumper style.

1970 Barracudas with front and rear rubber bumpers also got M88.
