A833 OD
« on: October 03, 2006 - 11:36:26 AM »
Well it's time to start working on my OD tranny.
I have a couple of questions?
My bell housing is from a 318 3spd which measures 4.30"
and the OD tranny bearing retainer measures 5.25".
I am going to get the bearing retianer turned down to 4.80"
and try to get the bell en-larged to 4.80"

My question is how acuarte does the machining have be, is there a tolerance I should be shooting for?

Thanks Rich

the retainer is easy to size properly , the bel needs to be within a couple of thou & will be harder to cut
offset dowels can help center it if it is off but you cannot adjust far withthe dowels

I've cut the bell alone before. I went from small block (small retainer) to the OD size. As long as they center off the exisitng opening, you should have no issues. But, you should be checking the alignment anyway to make sure the whole thing works right.

Or as i did you can eliminate all the hassle and its probably going to be the same cost and you dont have to cut the bell or tranny up.Look for the OD bell for the OD tranny(thanks to shelbyDog for finding me one on the net),Chrysler part number 202507,you might as well get the fork too(but it is still available from the dealer)

How much did the OD bell cost you?
The machining cost should not be a problem, one of my supplers will most likley do it for free.
