Hemi Intake/carb combination?

Just got my 426 crate hemi delivered yesterday  :woohoo:  this motor is going into my 71 cuda project :droolingbounce:  Already have my new Shaker set-up:droolingbounce: The engine is setup for a single 4BBL, so is my Shaker.

I'm deciding whether or not to put on dual Quads...found out today, new intake, carbs, linkage, shaker base, etc. is going to run another couple grand :hyper: 

Mopar recommends 750 cfm the way it is now, I have a new edlebrock 850 that I took off my 70 440 (now a 6pac).   

Is it worth the $ to go w/ the dual quad set-up???

The 750 DP on mine seems to be very responsive. Although a bit rich at idle.  :2cents:  I am planning on rejetting... (Chryco's recomendation) Let me know if you go to duals... just to compare notes if nothing else.  :thumbsup:

the single 4 intake is not nearly as efficient as the old dual quad , personally I think the 6 pack is the bst system for the Hemi though

No kidding! 6pac??  I haven't heard of a 6pac hemi.    You had to through out another option! :banghead:

I have my 440 six pac, it's running pretty sweet...would I notice a difference in power w/ a 426 6 pac ?

The 750 would work, but I'd go a step or two larger if you keep the 4bbl. I always thought the dual quad was the coolest looking tho.  I'd be very interested in seeing a six pac std intake (not the rat roaster top) with a 6bbl. I think that would sell a bunch. IIRC, Tom Hoover was trying to do that in '69, but it never got to production. I read that somewhere...

I have only seen the 1 off intake built by Dayclona But it is rumored to get over 20 mpg with more power than the 2x4 system

Your car will be more responsive with a single 4 bbl just like any other motor.I would sugest finding a company such as PRO SYSTEMS,he builds carbs for alot of nascar teams.All you have to do is give him all the specs on the motor and he will do the rest,all you would have to do is set the idle.COST around $800.00 but its well worth it in the long run.Like everyone has told you you would still have to play with an over the counter carb to get it right and to get the most out of your motor.

I appreciate the info...Although I'm torn between 2 things...performance and coolness.  I know that sounds shallow, but I'm spending big cash for something??? and my wife's happy w/ me. :bigsmile: Love my cuda :cooldancing:

  i'm at the point of making the same desicion on my crate 426 hemi leaning towards the 2x4's just wondering how you made out with your choice :feedback:

I decided on cool + performance.  The Stage V 2x4 inline intake plus a pair of 750 Edelbrocks.  Holleys were gonna be much more, and they require mods just to fit.  To do this one you'll need the drop-baseplate from Tim Banning as the Stage V is 1/2 taller.  This will work with a Shaaakkker hood.

Arlen Vanke liked dual Holleys on a Marine intake for a reason- probably just because of the reasons you stated, Chryco. The AFBs were more difficult to tune more power out of, and the intake didn't flow well enough until he modified it. I like the look of dual Holleys inline, but the crossram has a special flavor, too. I have seen Carter Thermoquads bolted onto a modified Street Hemi intake, and I bet that one honked pretty good!

Yeah, I definitely agree that there's more power to be had with the crossram.  And maybe with the spreadbore, aiding drivability via carb choice.  Cudaaah was talking Shaker.  And I wanted stuff to fit under a Rallye hood.  I have way more horsepower than I need, and with the Banning drop-baseplate its a still a stock look for either Shaker or Rallye hood, except for the Barton valve covers and alum. heads.  BTW, Cudaaah, the fit I'm referring to is based on Schumacher mounts on an v-8 k-frame for me.  They raise the engine approx.  3/8 inch.  so shaker fitment may hinge on a stock height intake and drop-baseplate, unless you use a hemi k-frame.
