5.7 HEMI Durango Upgrade
« on: October 09, 2006 - 06:26:52 PM »
So I got a great deal on a Intake upgrade for my Durango, I installed it today in about 2 hrs with help from a friend.  Right away I can tell the diference.  Im about to go to MI and I wanted to save a little on gas, Im hoping that I can get a 3-5 mpg diference at 80 mph.  We will see.  I will keep you updated on the mpg diference.

Cuda Guy

This is not a K&N kit, its just a filter, total with shipping and the K&N Air Filter all I paid was $75, If anyone else is interested in this type of set up I can pass on the contact info.

:iagree:  I agree they'll increase your mileage and power but you have to be careful how they are set up.  They do sound great when you get on it!  :burnout:

At highway speed they'll all run pretty well but at lower speeds they may not take in the outside ambient air but may take in the under hood air which is more hot and less dense and you may actually lose power from a standstill.

That's why many cars that have the cold air intake set up have an insulator wall that insulate the hot under hood air away from the air filter.  You can make one out of aluminum or any stiff material that is easy to cut, etc.  Just my 2 cents.

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Don,

I have the same setup on my 99 Durango.  Just make sure you keep the filter clean.  It tends to attract a lot of dirt being exposed like it is. Also make sure you disconnect the battery for a little while so the computer can readjust to the new flow when you reconnect it.  If I remember correctly that is what they told me to do.

Don't know if this is applicable but recently I had a battery replaced at the Interstate Dealer & they had me turn the ignition switch on/off three times rapidly then start the car, said that it reset the computer.

Chryco did the key thing on my Durango at Carlisle trying to diagnose a problem.  It must have some value for something.
