70 'Cuda gauges in 71 Challenger?
« on: October 10, 2006 - 05:37:50 PM »
My 71 Challenger has a standard dash. I have a rallye dash leftover from a 70 'Cuda I used to own and I want to install it in the Challenger. Do I have to have a different harness? I have some wires that seem to go nowhere on the Challenger and I am wondering if the factory had a one for all harness and the extra wires were simply not hooked to anything. I am also missing the alternator plate in the rallye dash and I am wondering if I can order another anywhere. Thanks for any information.

I'm not sure about your harness question.  :clueless: This is a swap that is do-able though. You just have to replace the oil pressure sending unit with one for the Rally gauges. The standard dash had a light, while the Rally gauges had a meter. You also need a power wire and signal wire for the tach. As I recall, the power wire was blue, with a cap on the end to fit over a screw on the back of the tach. The signal wire comes from the "-" side of the coil and is gray. It has a lug that slips over a terminal on the back of the tach too.

the harness was different but it is workable , you need to add a tach wire & a coulpe of guage wires will be short but will reach
