First track night with the `69-good and bad
« on: October 14, 2006 - 05:32:10 AM »
Went down the track last night with the `69 for the first time to make some runs.
*Good-nice cool air.started out in the 50`s and dropped to the low 40`s.
*Bad-cuda has no heat and vents are wide open which made for a cold ride home.
*Good-first run took it a little easy launching at 2200rpm and ran a 15.24@89mph.Not too bad for a tired`79 stock smog 360 with a few dead cylinders. This engine was pulled from a van and dropped in,only added an Weind intake and 3310 Holley.First compression test had cylinders fron 140-75  :eek4:
*Bad-second run was delayed cuz the dumb driver forgot to turn on the fans in the staging lanes and overheated.  :banghead: After a short cool down I went back up and ran a 15.7.I launched around 2800 but I think it was still hot and didn`t pull as hard.
*Bad-tried for a quick 3rd run but it wouldn`t start-battery died.Got a jump start and pulled into the lanes but sitting there idling it overheated again so we gave it up and headed home.
Overall not too bad a nighteven with the problems.I was pleasantly suprised with the 15.2 first run and figured with a little carb/timing tuning high 14`s should be no problem. The overheating issues were my own fault but I`m not sure why the battery died as I thought I had the charging problem solved. We`ll figure it out and get back next friday and hpefully get my high 14 as there are only a few more weeks of racing for the season.  :walkaway:

Sounds like fun.  This is a great time of year for a run at the track.  Bring your camera with you next time and post some pics.

After 30 some years of having muscle cars, taking one to the track is the one thing that I have never done. My nephew is always trying to prod me though. Infact he wants me to take the Challenger and the Corvette down to the track with him and his buddies. I guess I have just been one to baby my cars too much.

Never raced any of mine over the years either -on a track anyway. I noticed the older I get the more I don't wanna have to fix it, I just wanna drive it.

I`ve never hurt anything major in fact my worst problem was a torn engine mount in my `72.For me it`s the only place I can really drive my cars hard without getting arrested  :22yikes: and it`s just too much fun!I`d have pics but my cheap a$$ digital`s flash isn`t working and it didn`t take good night pics even when it was. There were a few other nice Mopars there too,a `70 Charger in Plum Crazy/white,a black 66 or 67 Charger and a  few others.I`ll get my buddy Phil to bring his camera next week and get a nice burnout pic!Phil`s car did real good as he got his first 10 second pass-a 10.98-this is in a 350 Chevy Monza, all motor!  :2thumbs:
