'CUda is being difficult!!!
« on: October 15, 2006 - 02:09:52 AM »
I have been trying to get the 'cuda ready for a club picnic tomorrow and have been up the past couple of nights all night trying to get the car to the point where I can drive it. First the exhaust didn't fit right, so I am currently running turn downs off the mufflers. Then I find out I have the wrong water pump pulley. So I find the right one only to find that I have the wrong crank pulley. Its too big.  :banghead: SO leave the wrong crank pulley on and re-install the wrong water pump pulley and hook up a idler pulley for the fan. Then we get everything ready to go (or so I thought) and try and start the car. 2 problems: no fuel, no spark. SO we fight for over and our (by this time it is dark out) and find out that the ignition box isn't getting a good enough ground to the body.  :bricks1: So we hook up a ground, now we have spark, but still no fuel. So we syphon the fuel line to prime the line and reattach the line to the fuel pump. THE STUPID THING WON'T MAINTAIN ITS PRIME!!!  :swear: We tried for an hour. Finally we said screw this first thing in the mornign we will get an electric pump and force the fuel to flow. We know the car fires because we did the redneck trick by pouring a small amount of fuel down the carb (I know bad me). By this time it was midnight and we were all exhausted. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I have until noon, to get the cuda driving, wash it, replace the brake pads on my Challenger, wash it, and meet up with everyone else, before we head off to the picnic. On a happier note the car looks stunning and I will post some pictures of it tomorrow evening. Thanks for reading me vent.

First thing that you are doing wrong is that you are rushing it  to fast just for a outing take your time  you don't want to get to this thing and have it break down on you do you  so just take your time and thing will go just right   Good luck  :2thumbs:

Is it a new pump and are the vent lines clear in the tank?

WOW sorry to hear about some setbacks!  Just tackle one thing at a time and if it gets done, so be it!  The best thing to do is not get aggravated and just keep that positive attitude.  I'm sure it will turn out just fine!   :2thumbs:

    :iagree:

It could be that the gas isn't getting to the pump(clogged sock on the pick-up tube), or you could have a clogged fuel filter. I've never had to prime a mechanical fuel pump before, even when there was no fuel is the line at all.

Everything is clear and new. I replaced the pump with an electric one and eureka problem solved car runs and things are looking better today. Well sort of, we went to fix the brakes on the Challenger and found out that the steel belts are showing through on the front tires. So its not going to the picnic, but as of right now the 'cuda is. I post pics tonight when I get back.

Cuda needs some fine tuning, but overall today was a success.

Glad you got the fuel problem figured out. I hate tracking down problems like no spark or no fuel. Sometimes it is easy and sometimes it takes forever to find the problem.

I should have the bugs worked out and the car finished in hopefully 2 weeks. I want to get the car finished before I leave for SEMA. The car will then be going up for sale, and probably put up on ebay. If any one is interested let me know. Any questions ask, I am more than willing to answer them. I know the first question will be how much, asking 50k, make me an offer you won't hurt my feelings.
