Market now seems flooded with higher end E & B body cars.
« on: October 15, 2006 - 02:30:05 PM »
I usually go to the bookstore when out and about and I seem to notice alot of these higher end cars (50 to 100K) seem to be up for sale.   I mean page after page they are everywhere.    Alot of these cars are not rotisserie fully restored cars.  They are half ragged out six pack cars and big block cars.   Some guys think their Panther pink cars are worth an additional $20K.   With all these cars for sale, I think alot of guys want OUT before prices come back down.   Dont get me wrong, I own a 70 RT/SE big block car, and I have no problems with the value of our cars being higher now.   But guys with the higher end cars are simply trying to unload while the getting is good.   Some people portray their car as "rare rare rare" when in fact not so very rare and (fit and finish) quality is taking back seat to the "my car is 1 of 138 with particular paint, options.   I dont care if your car was only one of 88 that had a 440 with a green on green, automatic on the column, and had a super rare rear window defroster............yea big deal.

I really don't care how high or low the prices of the e-bodies go to. You just can't put a price on the enjoyment that I get out of my car and the relationships that I have built through having it. The market is irrellevant to me.

The prices will find reality soon.  They will be on the same page before we know it.  For awhile prices and reality weren't even in the same book or even in the same library!
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

The market is starting to level off. Project cars are not selling for the higher prices they once brought. Seems most want driver condition/ local show car. Clone / recreations are starting to come down to reality. Of course the really rare pieces are still bringing a pretty dollar. Parts aren't getting any cheaper though. I wonder if Barret-Jackson will have the market swayed again this winter?

...following the MOPAR market from way back in the early 1980s....I thought my '69 Daytona (10K mile original) was topped out pricewise at $15k....prices couldn't get any higher, could they ?....89 days later I sold it for $47K....it later sold for $66K and is a six figure car now....for several years during the 1990s, prices leveled out, not much appreciation  but really very little correction either on QUALITY cars...quality always sells, quality always brings the big money and always will...prices CAN'T continue at todays rate of increase, but I am still buying QUALITY.....

...my philosophy was simple all along....buy the best there is and above all, buy what you like and you will never go wrong...bottom line, cars are a GREAT investment over time and a lot of fun too

pix...my 1st collector car investment, a 1961 Vette.... paid $2,100 and sold it a few months later for $4,200...REALLY BIG MONEY TO ME IN 1975 .... (I know it ain't a MOPAR, but I was young and foolish then)...my second collector car investment was a 1962 Vette...paid $4,800 for it and sold for $6,400 a few months later.....THE VERY SAME CAR IS AT A LOCAL COLLECTOR DEALER FOR $89k...

...invest and enjoy, you will never be unhappy with a MOPAR in your garage

When I spoke to a couple who are really in to muscle cars in general (they have a '70 Hemi Cuda and a '67 Shlby GT500!) they said that the market is hot now because the "baby boomers" want to reminisce about there younger days and such.

They think once the baby boomers move through (retire, die, etc..), then the market will slowly drop.

Sounds reasonable to me.  :dunno:

Daytona, the one thing you fail to understand is the market in the 80's and early 90's had nothing else to offer.  It was older muscle cars or mini vans!

HOWEVER, in todays market their are many other true muscle and sports car to choose from.  We are right back in the horse power wars and the future money is going to be made on those cars.  With the new Vette, Ford GT, Mustang, Challenger and Viper there is a ton of good quality high HP cars to be bought for a fair price (new and used).  That is and will be what brings the price of the 70's muscle cars back in to check.  The new '08 viper should push over the 600 HP mark right from the factory WITH A WARRANTY!  It's just like being back in the early 70's.... but better!

I love 70's mopar muscle, but today is the best day to be a muscle car guy!  Best of both worlds!

I agree about there being better power in today's cars, but you have to realize that many of the high horsepower cars are out of the price range for most of the public.  I would love to own a new Viper ($80,000), but even the older low hp versions are still in the $40,000 range (too much).

This is why I perfer to stay with my Challenger, because no matter what engine I have in it, when I take it out for a drive, I get as much attention as a new Viper.  Even the ricers second guess themselves about racing.

Cody....

...I understand the new cars vs the old car market (currently own 4 Vipers, etc etc).....while the "NEW MUSCLE" has been arriving on the scene during the last decade, "OLD MOPAR MUscle" has exploded pricewise, many entering the 7 figure price range...people aren't paying millions for a HEMICUDA convertible because there is nothing new to drive...if your argument held true, the MONA LISA wouldn't be valuable because there are new prints (copys) at WMart....

performance wise, I have a new Jeep SRT8 that will run away from any HEMI MOPAR of it's day.....but you don't see people dumping HEMICUDAs to buy Jeeps....life isn't all all about how fast you can go.....it's about "how you get there"

...a decade from now, people will be looking for the elusive VIPER GTS/ACR ...with around a thousand built and many raced to death, we will have the HEMICUDA all over again.....I have driven my friends 900RWHP Viper on the street(first 9 second street Viper in the world), and again,  the prices of "MOPAR Muscle" didn't crumble that day...

...muscle cars have quite a long run left for appreciation, it ain't over yet

They think once the baby boomers move through (retire, die, etc..), then the market will slowly drop.

So your saying that the passion of the Young Guns is less than a Baby Boomer, it has and will be enstowed into generations until the cars dont exist. the Passion for these cars isnt going to die soon.  and prices are still going to be high, but the 20k junk will put people in there place.
