I have State Farm too, they have collector car insurance available.  My Challenger Convertible is covered at $45,000 and I pay them $220/year for coverage. My recent bill says "limited use antique/classic.  I don't remember all the restrictions since it has been a while since I started coverage with them but I am pretty sure they require the car to be kept in a locked garage, and that you have another vehicle for regular use (and insured with them) to be eligible for their antique coverage.
I have to do some research as I have heard they are "stated value" not "agreed value".  Also I just got my car re-appraised a few weeks ago and the value on the new appraisal was very high. I may switch to Hagerty or someone else if State Farm isn't Agreed value.

I just signed up for State Farm collector car insurance last week on my 74 Barracuda, valued now at $20k.  It has to be garaged, cannot be driven more than 5,000 miles/year, and costs me $90 per 6 months.  But, make sure you get it appraised periodically, say yearly, just in case.

Speaking of  :clueless:, does anyone know how to get it appraised, and how much that should cost?

I've got American Family, I realize they may not be available in your area. But I checked into Grundy/haggerty/American Collectors/State Farm/and a few others they had the best deal for me. Also undestand your state /zip code/driving record/age/sometimes even credit rating all come into play. My appraisal was over $110K and I pay a little over $600 a year /full coverage.

What?  :swear: :stomp:
My State Farm agent said that my '71 was not old enough about 4 months ago.  Is this something new they are offering?
Also I would like some info on how to get an appraisal.

As far as appraisal's, I know a couple in Massachusetts if anyone needs the info let me know. I think they charge roughly $100.00 if you go to them and like $25.00 more if they go to you.
On some of those restrictions make sure you do read them. Some companies also restrict coverage for only going to and at car shows, occasional drives and the car can not be left unattended. I heard of someone having a claim while at a resturant. They eventually paid the claim but cancelled the guy. I don't know all the facts but this is why he is a client of mine now.
By using a standard company make sure it's agreed value or stated amount if it's not they will only pay actual cash value which won't be much.
Also make sure the company your dealing with is admitted into your state through the insurance commision. If they are not, like one company talked about here in Mass, if the company pulls out and leaves you high and dry on a claim your on your own. Where if they are licensed and admitted you can go to the insurance commisionor for help collecting.

My agent told me 30 years was their cutoff, and mine's a '73, so you should be good to go.

I believe State Farm must not think you drive your car for that kind of rate.

Well, I don't know how much driving I do compared to others, but I told them it would be 1,000 miles per year.  It's actually less than that.

:iagree:  Not trying to step on any toes, but above is what GRUNDY told me. On top of their SHI**Y cust service. What do you mean I can't stop to eat on the way home from a cruise????  :swear: I dropped them a few years ago. (On top of the above, I couldn't even get my address updated when I moved, along with every person you talk to telling you different things just for starters.) I now have Hagerty and have had no problems. I do know 2 people who have unfortunatly had to file claims with them and they had no problems and were paid quickly so that convinced me. Also I believe State farm is probably making their money on the daily drivers since you must have your regular car insured with them to get the antique ins. Every time that I have received a quote from them for regular insurance it was way out of the ball park.

  Thanks to everyone.  This has been awesome information and I think I'll go with Hagerty.  I called them and explained the usage of my car and the lady even told me they don't actually 'check' the milage, but they assume you only use it for shows and recreational driving.  I told her I would be doing a max of 5000 a year and she said that is not a problem at all.  $216 for the year and that matches (all but medical expenses) my current car insurance, so now I feel safe about driving my car.

Thanks again  :jumping: :jumping:!

With Haggerty, I believe you also cannot get caught driving the car "to or from work", if you have to make a claim.

If so, be sure you "had the day off" and were out for a pleasure cruise :)

I have both my mopars with Haggerty.  I had to send in pics as well, but only a couple.   Their Customer Service in signing up was good.   So far they have not had any problems taking my money.
I think Im at 450 or something for both cars, Id have to double check but I think thats about right.

They also have a website you can get a relative quote on.   My actual price came in lower.

Before I had lockable garages for both cars, I only had the challenger insured for liability with Allstate (before the ebody prices went up the last couple of years) and I simply didnt drive or insure the Convertible (lucky the garage never caught on fire or anything I guess).   I was paying big time thru Allstate though, even with my hunting trucks on there as well.

The good thing was that I didnt have any driving restrictions on the Challenger and I put a bunch of miles on it as an every day car, but I was taking a big risk with uninsured motorists or hit-n-runs.

I havent collected insurance on anything since 1991 (and that was a whopping 900$).   Be nice to get some of my money back ?
