so what ended up being the big carb problem ?   Did it comeback from Holley with no issues, or ?  Still using the 750 DP ?

That earlier thread about pushing this same car off a cliff, didnt ever finish with what happened on that whole carb issue.

were the fuel bowl settings too high or was it more complicated ?

Holley sent it back saying it was good and had been flow tested.  I put it on the the car and it ran worse then ever.  I had it tuned way better than they sent it back to me.

That made 2 different carbs (carter and the holley) that ran like crap and the Holley had been tested by the factory twice!  The guy I sold the carter 600 to said it ran great on his car and loved it, so I don't think that carb was the main issue.  Neil went though the carb anyway and found a few little issues, but I think the cam was the biggest issue.  When I bought the car from Scott 8 months ago he said he tried a few different carbs and the only one that ran any good was the carter 600.  So I think he was having the same issues with it too (before he sold the car to me.)

In my mind the new cam was the best improvment I have done to the car.  :woohoo:

The Holley 750 DP is working great now!

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Excellent.   :2thumbs:

I was just wondering how that all turned out.  Unsolved Mysteries, etc.

Thanks for explaining and better yet glad your car is running strong finally.

Have you had it out for some more street action yet, or are you still a little hesitant from getting to far from the house, after all the trouble youve gone through ?  (which no one would blame you for at all )

I'm glad it's working too!  :woohoo:

I've taken it out and gone through a few tanks of gas.  I thought my truck got bad gas milage!  This car sucks gas like is got a leak in the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow, yesterday coming home from work I lined up at a light where the 2 lanes were going down to 1.  The car next to me inched forward and I got ready.  Dropped it down to 1st and when the light turned green I PUNCHED IT!  The tires chirped when I slapped 2nd and I kept my foot to the floor.  I looked over and this Toyota Rav 4 type SUV was right next to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I wanted to cry.   :faint:

What used to be fast in 1970 isn't much these days!  I think I will stay away from racing anyone in this car.  After jumping on it on dry pavement I would be suprised if this challenger could do 14 seconds in the quarter!  Time for a bigger motor!  :clapping:

:iagree:

Years ago, I use to race a friend home almost every night.  My Challenger was equal to a V6 Acrua.  Not anymore, I got a much better engine now.

:iagree: I know what you and jacksboys are saying.  :-[

My car is still stock so I know it only has a 340 with low compression so the sad fact of the matter is:

'72 Dodge Challenger=2000 Honda Odessy=2003 Honda Accord=1990 Acura Integra=0-60mph=8 seconds, 1/4 mile=16 seconds.   :crying:  :banghead:  :faint:

Maybe all I can do is race my wife in the van to the Brownie meeting.  :walkaway:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Either way, we have to look at it as even though the cars may not be considered super fast anymore, they are still much better looking and will always get more attention than any of those other autos.  We win!  :woohoo:

In the early nineties a buddy of mine had what we thought was a fast car (77 SS el camino with a built 350), and beat most of on short stoplight drags on Friday nights.    He took it to the track and couldnt get under 15sec 1/4 mile.      :violin:

I feel your pain there.  Glad youre getting a chance to cruise around town in it finally.   :)

The 2006 RAV4s are not to be messed with unless you have a quick car.  They have 269 hp and do 0-60 in 7 seconds.  I read that they are the fastest thing in the Toyota line-up!  They have AWD and traction control too.
