I had a groin hernia repaired a couple of years ago, but not laparascopically. My surgeon said he did a guy on Friday and the guy was out playing golf on Monday. He did mine on a Friday morning and I could have gone back to work on Monday (auto parts counter), but the boss told me to take off whatever I needed so I went back on Tuesday. He had a stool for me to use, but I found I was much more comfortable standing than sitting. I only took a pain pill the first two nights after the surgery before going to bed, just to make sure I slept okay. Very minimal pain. A friend of mine had the same surgery done by the same surgeon and complained of bad pain for two weeks, and had to have his wife go get a refill on his pain medication! Actually I think he was just a big wuss! :roflsmiley:

My father just had this done about two months ago.  He was in and out of the doctor's office in a matter of hours.  He had some pain pills and he said that the pain was no worse than hernia was before.  After a two weeks, he was going back to work but under light duty (no lifting over 30 pounds for 30 days).

I think some people can go back to light duty in under a week, just depends on your job.

That doesn't sound like a fun way to spend the weekend!  You'll be in my thoughts and prayers that day.

Just as a note , the doctor said there are more hernias created  from coughing and sneezing , them from lifting heavy objects!  :eek7:

Whoaaa here, it doesn't always go that easy on the recovery side.  My doctor told me I'd be home for dinner  haahhaa, I went home more than 2 days later.  Was supposed to be lapro but when he got in there he had to open me up.  I had two done at the same time though.  Well now that I freaked you out most times it is day surgery but in your profession I'd take it easy for a while.  I work w/my hands as well(electrician) and figured I could go back and take it easy but I really shouldn't have(I'm self employed) but I had to.  You are not supposed to drive for a while due to the pushing motion of the brakes could lead to reinjury.

Good luck!!  Make sure you don't watch any Three Stooges or Spongebob or whatever makes you laugh out loud spontaneously  :naughty:  If you feel a sneeze or cough coming on get on the ground and double up ahead of time  :o ...voe (voice of experience). I had double hernia surgery the old fashioned cut and sew method 13 years ago. I don't like catheters...no sir :o :o :o :grinno: :grinno: :grinno:
You'll be fit as a fiddle in no time

I forgot to mention that.  No driving for a few days.

I originally thought I couldn't drive due to the Pain Killers so I stopped taking them and was promplty scolded by the Doctor!  I had to go back to work ASAP due to the Bills!  Kept driving anyways figured if I damaged them then it was too late anyways!  Seems fine now but I'm more conscience of lifting heavy things by myself now.  It's been 2-3 yrs but I don't think they'll get me back in there again if I got another one!(you never forget that pain)
