Any one know how to remove the mirror glass??
« on: October 20, 2006 - 06:44:03 PM »
My outsde mirror is in great shape and so is the glass, but its loose and the glass needs to come out to tighten it up. Does anyone know how to get the glass off without breaking it? like soaking the mirror in a solution or something thanks 1fast sixpack

The mirror mount is easy getting out, just two screws behind there holding it in. As far as getting the mirror off - Good Luck, I broke mine trying to get it off. I ordered a new one at Pep Boys and it only cost me about $14.00.

Get a big bottle of "Goof off" or "Goo Gone" and soak it in that for about a day, it will slide right off.

Thanks, after about an 8 hour soak the mirror glass popped right off!! Tightened the set screw glued the mirror glass back in and now is good as new.

I wouldn't use the thinner because if left too long it could take the silver off the back.

Good point but if you have to replace the mirror anyways what is the best of the two to use, so you don't break anything else?

Well, I don't know about "breaking" anything else but the thinner surely won't help the paint.  The goof off is pretty harmless, it didn't do anything bad to my mirror or paint.
