NEWBIE FROM DOWN UNDER
« on: October 21, 2006 - 12:09:49 AM »
Hello fellow Moparians!!!  My name is Con and I am from Australia.   I have just purchased a 1973 Plymouth Barracuda from Conneticut and plan on turning it into a 1970 Cuda Clone.   I will post photos of my car when it docks here in Australia.   I also own an Australian Charger which I have restored - keep a look out for photos of this soon.   Any advice regarding restoring my car would be much appreciated.  As you can imagine trying to source parts and information on how to restore a Barracuda is difficult being so far aware from the USA.  I have always loved the Plymouth Cuda/Barracuda as a child and decided to make my dream come true.  The car I purchased is a diamond in the rough (lol) but hey you have to start somewhere.

I look forward to reading about your cars and I'm sure I will find all your advice very valuable.

Cheers
Con

Hello Con, just curious as to why you would want to change it? I started a thread a little while ago on this subject, 90% were against the idea of owners converting, but, hey! It's your car. You'll need to spend a lot of money and you'll need to do it right or not at all.

This means seats, fenders, rear tailpanel, rear light area and of course the grille etc etc. The money you use to make it into a clone could have almost, if not, purchased you a 70 Cuda to begin with.

Just some food for thought.

Welcome, build it however you want, your paying the bill!  I'm not a big fan of the 72-74 styling, so I say go for it... but it wont be cheap!

Welcome to the site. I would check on what it will cost you to convert your 73 to a 73 before I would go this route as it will cost you lots of $$$ to convert it and do it right.

Con,

Welcome to the site.  Your can get a lot of repro body parts from many sources.  I personally have used Auto Body Specialties in Conneticut. They usually have most of what I need in stock.  I also have used Shermans.

Good Luck with your project.!! It looks like fun.

Thanks for your welcome guys/girls.

In response to NZ440R/T's question re why do I want to convert a 73 Barracuda to a 70 Cuda.  The reason is I prefer the 70/71 Cuda but I have been unable to find one in my price range so I found a standard 73 model instead.  All the panels need changing anyway.  However if it was a 73 Cuda I would have restored it as is.  Hope this answers your question.

Thanks for the welcome, that's freaky because 14 years ago my wife and I were in the US.  We toured all of the west and east coast and have relatives in Conneticut.

Welcome to the forum Con.  Great to have you hear.  When are you expecting the Barreacuda to arrive?
