Hear ya on that one. Hope everything works out. You think you will be able to take it to Ohlone next year?

Doubtful but anythings possible.
I'm doing the shaker hood conversion starting this week end. Then engine teardown begins in October and send it in.

I converted my flat hood today into a Shaker.
Pics in order...

Inside bracing was cut off earlier. 1 and a half inches cut inside all around on frame areas only from where new shaker brace lays over the flat hood.

1.
Centering base underneath.
Measure 3x's to triple make sure. But also make sure that the bent provisions appear to cover over the original frame like OEM hoods are. Don't get over concerned on actual measure. I could go on and on about postioning the frame.
All I can say is really study all the details on how and where it will be centered  before any cuts will go. Then I put 4 sheet metal screws in to secure it to the hood.

2.
Scribe a line on the inside. Then tape off area to be cut. Add a little extra to the corner areas. You'll thank yourself later.

3.
Scribing the line where cut will be made.

3 & 4
Measured in the middle, each side is 14 inches exact from the edge. Taped off where edge to cut will be.
2 holes are drilled side by side from the back center of the hood...(13 and 3/16ths). This will be where the cut will begin.

5.
Hole made with pneumatic hand saw zawl. Still lots to do. This is when I starting to get stoked.  :woohoo:

6.
Positioning ring. Check that points are lined up where they meet. Front edge and rear tip in center. Go and look underneath and see how the flat edge of the ring is positioning and adjust. Check all this over 3x's.

7.
After the edge is taped off, (about 1 inch) this will be where you will use the special vice grips to make the indentated edge so that the ring sits flush.

8.
Trial fitting the ring on. Check the angles of the studs before you drill the holes. Tweak them a little if needed so that they are more centered to the area they'll be going thru. Be careful doing this. Their easy to bust off or damage.

9.
Unless you're a surgeon, you may be need to trim the edges so that they don't over hang where the ring flat edge meets. The hood sheet metal ideally close to the edge where the ring meets.

10.
Using the special pliers to make the indentated edge so that the ring will sit flush. Go in increments about 1/8th an inch overlap one after another. Keep checking vice grip PSI so that you make an effective edge. Don't get too worried of it being exact and perfect. Just the best you can. Undoubtably, some body filler will be done later to get the meeting edge symetrical to the ring. When completed, dolly and hammer so the new lip is flat.

11.
Completed ring indentaion. Still needs a few areas gone over. But pretty dang close.

12.
Ring mounted. This is where I stopped at today. You can see that the back lip needs a little more work. Again, there is a lot of trial fit and trimming in order to get this looking correctly.

Mike,  I noticed on my friend's converted flat to shaker hood, that it now doesn't close evenly across the front fenders.  I told him that he must have let it twist a little before or while he was welding on the support brace.

I would suggest that you first tack the brace all the way around, then trial fit it on a cuda with installed fenders, to correct any twist before final welding.

This week end I stripped the inside of the hood with paint stripper, 3" roloc, and metal prep washed everything.
Then I epoxy primered the inner hood area and the other shaker conversion parts.
I didn't want to blast it as I've heard of stories of them getting warped.
