The hood looks like it's coming along nicely!!!  Bummer about the Shaker ring...  Any ideas on how you are going to get it to lay flat???

Sean

It'll lay flat Sean. Just in that picture, its un bolted and just laying in the holes it goes into. The issue with them is the edgework where it sits flush into the recessed hood area. Very uneven and just not very accurately made. Here's a pic before I first started working on it on its first test fit.

See the back? It doesn't match but the front one does.

Look at the edge. Very un-even and crusty areas.

Yeah, I see what you're saying.  I have no doubts you'll get it to sit right.  Looks like it will take a little doing though.

After almost 2 months of cold, soggy weather, I got a break this week end to work on the body some more. My car was a sight for sore eyes as I missed working on it.

Today did some final touch ups on the bodyline and blocked it with 180.

Its very close to being presentable now on the passenger side to send to the bodyshop. After 180 block, I threw another primer.

What do you mean send it to the bodyshop? You have done so well so far why would you send it anywhere at this point? You worried about spraying at home or is it just for the final blocking out? It looks great!

Thanks,

I just want to have them re double check the bodylines down the middle one more time. I'll have them do the final blocking after 320 that I'll do before they get it. Then paint.

I shouldn't spray at home.
It's a populated area. I don't want to get busted. Big fines in CA if caught.

It's got a ways to go Ron. I know everything this car has been thru in its life. Right now I'm putting all my efforts on the sides then the trunk and hood last. The way it sits right now I could take to a body shop and let them finish it. I don't want to really go that route. I want the satisfaction saying..."I did it"

What I learned about doing your own bodywork is this: Once you start, don't let up. I say this because this 2 month break working on it because of the weather, has me almost trying to pick up on the momentum I had going. What happens is you think you have it perfect then you find small descrepancies later you forgot about because of the time gone by. Almost like having to start all over again.

I do know a place to rent a booth near me. But it would have to have everything done over a week-end or a 3 day holiday week-end. I would need someone to help with that much to do. That's an option to look into when it gets closer to paint time.

Got off the phone with you CODY.
Please send me the link about the sprayer. Thanks for the pointers.

It was great talking to you Mike.  You will have your car in paint in no time flat!  I'm sure it will look great too!

Here's the sprayer I use for the Wax & Grease remover (the Viton 50100)....

Keep up the great work!

Okay Mike,

New question. With the 5 star, when you sprayed it as a filler and not a sealer (ie 4:1 not 4:1:2) what size nozzle were you using or did you thin it out just a little for better flow?

Let me know when you get a moment.
