Front license plate bracket mounting
« on: October 22, 2006 - 08:07:27 AM »
Does anyone have pics of how the front license plate bracket mounts on a Challenger?

I picked up a bracket at a swap meet, guy said it was for E-body.  I'm not seeing it?

Thx

Katfish,

It would help if you could post a pic. If not, I'll post a pic of mine tomorrow. I can tell you it looks nothing like the pic that RUSTY cuda drew. I believe mine was mounted to the valance panel too.  :clueless:

Ok so I can't draw   :-[  looks a little like it to me  if it mounts to the valence it may be totally different than the cuda one, but here's the real thing if it helps, Rich

Rusty that looks similar to mine where it attaches but mine is squared off instead of angles.  I have a Challenger but not a 70. :walkaway:

My camera's not working so I can't post a pic.  I can see where it could bolt to the valance, bottom bracket has same shape.  What about the upper 2 mounting holes, they don't come anywhere near the bumper?

Mine only attach to the Bumper not the Valance.

The 70-71 style bracket bolts to the valance like state above, two holes go through the front face of the valance & the other two are on the backside of the top flange...

72-74 hang off the bumper with a squared off bracket

Thanks Wild R/T, so if bottom 2 bolt to valance, the upper part of the bracket (with 2 mounting holes in flange) don't connect to anything?

Unless there's another piece I'm missing?  When the bracket is bolted to the valance, the upper part of the bracket doesn't come near the bumper.  And if it did, it wouldn't help.  I only have 1 hole in bumper, and it's dead center.  The license plate bracket has 2 holes.

No, the top two bolts go through the bracket & through the flange on the back side of the top of the valance..
If my car were in my garage instead of my shop I would post a picture...

Ok I went to Ebay & stole a photo. (don't tell the cops) How's this...BTW This is the backside of the valance...

I really appreciate the help, but i'm totally confused.  From your last picture it seems the whole assembly is shifted down from the pic MEKrunner posted above?

If the top of the bracket is bolted to valance, then there needs to be 2 holes drilled in middle of valance to connect the lower section of bracket?

If this is right the license plate would be shifted down and leave a big gap between bottom of bumper?

Sorry to be such a pain.

There are holes the the face of the valance, the plate mounts to the bracket by it's two bottom screws which position the plate fairly high, it looks normal...Heres the best front shot I had of my Challenger, it shows the plate position pretty normal looking to me..

Here's the pic of the bracket for a 70 Challenger(maybe other years too). It has 4 holes to bolt it to the valence, although I was a little lazy when I put it on, and only used the bottom 2 holes.  :misbehaving: I am including a pic of my front bumper which is from a 72. Notice the 3 holes underneath where the license plate cutout is. I wonder if that is for a 72-74 bracket?   :dunno:

I finally got it!   Couldn't visualize this thing not connecting to bumper.  Now that I see that last pic it all becomes clear.

Thanks for all the help!
