The last page has some pics of patches I have already done.

This will be the last part I attempt. With the weird curves it will be hard to redo. You can't see in the pics but in the channel it is all rotted. I was thinking that I could make it straight but I am not sure why its there? Any thoughts?

The second pic is just in front of the shock tower on the driver side frame rail. The hole looks like it has some sort or backing plate behind it that is quite beefy compared to the frame (green spot welds holding the plate on.) There is rust forming between the plate and the frame causing the circumference of the hole to push out. The grey marks are locations of rust holes after sand blasting. Does anyone know what this hole is for or how big this plate is. I will be cutting it out and replacing, but wanted a good idea what’s back there before I start hacking.

Lunchbox,

I will look at my Challenger to see if I have the same hole.  Can you take another picture a little further away.  I can't tell where that's at, even though you gave a location.

Thanks,
FY1

Heres another shot. I don't have any of that area after the blasting.

Yours appears to have a solid plate behind the hole.  Both my 70 car and my 71 parts car have the hole open and they are the same on both sides of the cars. (i.e., holes through the backing plates in all four places.)  Neither appear to ever have had anything attached. :bananasmi

Thanks Guys  :2thumbs:

Well I did some more work on my cowl today, not much more done but I shreaded my last cutoff wheel so I couldn't get much further. Sorry if the step by step stuff is kind of boring but doing this helps me stay motivated to keep plugging away at this beast.  :icon16:

This patch panel only took me two trys to do. Which is getting better for most of my other ones, I have 3-5 bad ones to one good one. Everyone I make I get better and better. I have started to be able to predict how the metal will act when I start welding. After just a few tacks, places where there were perfect gaps are now touching...etc. Also the Copper backer is a life saver along with a few vice grip C-clamps to help hold the metal level and in the right spot. I also have a couple foot-type clikos that work pretty good.

As always and comments good or bad are always welcome.

That looks fantastic,by the way I have a set of posts---but someone else cut them and they cut em at the base, just above the corner of the cowl. From the pics you sent me I don't think that they will do you much good.---The Clown

You are well on your way on it! :2thumbs: The cowls are one of the harder areas to repair and yours is going very well.

Thanks for the comments guys  :2thumbs: Worked more today making another patch for the cowl and did a ton of grinding. I am going to grind the inside of the welds down too but should I do them all or just the areas that will come into contact with the firewall?
