Barracuda quarter scoops?

I have wanted to ask a question for a long time and someone here just might finally have the answer for me. Back in the early 80's I saw a 383 Barracuda which a guy called an SE so I am assuming it was a Gran Coupe. There were black plastic scoops just behind the doors low on the quarter panel, I had never before seen it and have never seen it since. They appeared to be factory and I was wondering if anyone knows what they were? They were not like the 71 challenger r/t scoops but a single scoop on each side with more of the appearance of the 70 gtx side scoop.

Nope it was a FE5 383-4 barracuda. The guy was selling it for 800 bucks and we were scoping it out. Ah the good ole days of good prices on cars. I know I could kick myself for turning down a $450 71 barracuda vert with a 318, power top and air because it had some floor pan rust and a column shift automatic

Very rare option-M46 I think? Edit-yup,do a search for M46.

Yup, thats the beast, thanks guys! The one I saw was not body color though it was black plastic. Weird the many rare options we hardly ever get to see. Guess thats why people who could buy them new say that you really could option a 'Cuda or Challenger any way you wanted.
