1973 Challenger Rallye: What's the correct headliner?
« on: October 28, 2006 - 10:30:52 PM »
Everything I'm seeing says that the headliners are perforated vinyl.

Mine is currently fabric. No perforations. With a carpet-padding like material under it. It was perfect until I decided that it needed a going over with a damp sponge to remove dust/dirt.

Rrrrip.  :dupe:

Do I have an aftermarket liner in there?

I hope I do, as all the replacement headliners I see are the vinyl.

Grec, Sounds like the headliner in my '73 Challey, They call it ribbed. The replacement I got was vinyl and does look close but has been a pain to install. I will be getting a professional involved before I'm finished  :faint: . I screwed up & ordered from Jims Auto Parts who charged half the price of the headliner for shipping and would not respond to my complaints via email :swear:. Paddock lists at a little higher price but I bet they will be more reasonable w/ S&H.

:iagree:  I ended up with the Vinyl also. Haven't seen the OE type headliner. I installed my own. It is a real pain to get the wrinkles out. A heat gun comes in handy.

My 74 was fabric originally also, but the repop brand all the parts houses are selling are vinyl and come in only few generic colors.

If you need a color headliner, I would recomend SMS auto fabrics 503-263-3535. They make their own from correct material, they do not sell the same one everyone else sells. That's where I got my green one. The repop (year one) green was not right. The SMS one was the correct shade / color and matches the original one well.

Ugh.

Wonderful. So I ripped an otherwise perfect headliner isn't made anymore.

I may look into sewing the rip instead... if the fabric will hold a stitch, that is.

No it is dry rotted & needed replacement, was just a matter of time.
