new here but....i gotta!
« on: October 30, 2006 - 03:33:21 PM »
i love how you all bash the imports! it kills me. as an import guy who loves all cars that are done right! cudas and challengers i love...if they are rebuilt correctly.

i have had supras, mr2 spyders, and celicas. toyota fan obviously. now i own a lotus elise (1.8 liter 4 cylinder...yeah stop laughing.... 0-60 times in the 4.4-4.7 second range! over 1 full G on the skid pad totally stock!!150 mph top speed electroniclly limited). roughly translated by my mopar LOVING girlfriend (her dad has 2 daytonas, 2 charger 500's a charger RT, and a 70 challenger RT rag.), uh umm are you going to sloooooow down for that corner...guess not!

what kills me is that it seems some of you have run across the kids that have junker jap stuff! not the true builders who can be seriously impressive.

just for reflection. the 0-60 times on a new stock 69 hemi charger was like 9.9 seconds!
the 0-60 times on a stock 2006 suburu wrx sti is like 5.2 seconds!!
granted the charger is cooler for its nostalgia but reall how can you compare a 30 year old car to a new techno car?
the classics are well... classics

doesn't take a rocket scientist to do that math!
with that said i am looking forward to this forum. i want to build a 69-71 challenger. totally shaved, LED tail light halogen headlamps, big wheels with rubber bands for tires with maybe an SRT8!

You're in the same boat as me really. I want to build a '71 'Cuda with shaved handles and signals, maybe a flat hood (gasp). What I'd really like to afford is the XV Motorsports Level II setup but that would be extremely expensive. With any luck I'll be able to get into the hobby seriously next year. I'm just getting my first house now. :)

Given infinite funds I'd have a Lotus Exige S in my collection for sure. Right now I just have an Acura TL. Quite a step up from the 91 Caravan I was driving before. The chances of me owning a new American car for a daily driver any time in the future are very remote. You just can't beat Toyota/Honda reliability and resale value.

I laugh at the crap rice myself. Coming from central CA, I've seen my fair share of Civics with erector set spoilers and unpainted body kits. Now I live in NC and hardly see any rice anymore. I kind of miss it actually.

What I'd really like to do is tow a Mopar on a flatbed to a show using a Honda Ridgeline. That'd probably get some stares and grumbles.

i drive a toyota tundra. cant wait to get the challenger behind that and pull into a mopar show!!!!
i have a good friend that builds custom cars for a profession, he's going to be BIG like coddington and foos someday! he is that good!!! i will do the basics on this car and let him finish it. it will end up costing me around 50 grand but it'll be one of the baddest looking mopars out there. figure it would cost anyone else about 75-100G to do what we want. door popper hood and trunk remote openers with motors all led and cad lighting, digital dash full custom leather interior. and a pearl orange paint sceme with either black or camel top.

i laugh at the jap crap too but there are some nice ones around.(ever seen a 1000 HP toyota supraTT? wow talk about fast) these kids just don't understand that it takes real money to make them fast. they can afford a 100 dollar exhaust not a 500 dollar one so they get what they pay for...noise. i put a team moon exhaust on my mr2 spyder and it sounded very smooth added 10-12 hp. sounded almost stock not loud or obnoxious but it wasn't cheap either.

If you haven't checked out the XV Motorsports site yet, I'd look into it if I were you. The parts are extremely expensive, but they've completely reworked the suspension from the ground up and will offer 5.7L and 6.1L Hemi engine packages too. The 6.1's will eventually have twin turbo and supercharger options too. They will also offer the T56 Viper spec transmissions too. All of the components from interior to fuel and intercoolers are going to be designed to work together so there should be no guesswork as to, "will this fit?"

In order to have the baddest Mopar out there, you've got quite a bar to cross if you want to beat the XV stuff. We're all still waiting on real world test numbers to see how they compare to modern cars, but the equipment looks very promising so far. I know a few guys on this site have already expressed some serious interest in their stuff.

Saw one on eBay the other day... I think it might have been a scam, though. ::)

Welcome, fly... and you might want to check your production years...

not being a huge mopar guy i now realize that it is the 70-71 challenger and the 69 charger that she wants! sorry i was confused!!!

the xv level 2 is a bad looking car. this IS the kind of cars my friend builds. i can't see the paint quality on the xv but i am sure it is top notch.
my friends body and paint work it better than most show cars i've seen. so he ruined me for going to shows. i look at a car and go...hmmm guess they painted that with a rattle can.
does xv sell components or just complete cars. the suspension would be nice to incorporate into my future car. i was going to use performance bags and still may depending on the xv price.

Welcome aboard flyguy!!  Sounds like you are going to build a sweet car and the pearl orange sound cool!  Got any pics of something that color??  As for the new wave cars  :sly:  . . .  :clueless: I'm way out of the loop on that and I couldn't tell you what a supra even looks like let alone who makes it??  I assume one day I will build some modern type of MOPAR to try to keep up with the times.  Who knows . . maybe one that runs on something other than gas??   :dunno:   Hope you enjoy the site and keep us up to date on the build . . do you have the car already??  If so . .  :useless:

Those Elise's are like over-grown go karts....They can really handle thanks to their weight and engine placement.  My cousin had an '04 RX-8 a while back and gave me a ride once...It's not the greatest for acceleration off the line, but man can that car handle!  We were at 80-85 and he was jerking the wheel back and forth, but you'd barely feel it.  Don't get us wrong, most of us here appreciate certain Imports, but some of those cars get to be too ugly and not so fast without their nitrous and turbos...Too bad you didn't join about a year ago.  One of the members was from overseas, had a Skyline GTR-34 decked to the max and still looked great that he sold to buy his dream car; a 'Cuda. :grinyes:
1973 Dodge Challenger......................The ongoing project. (00/----\00)
1991 Dodge Stealth R/T Twin-Turbo....The sunny day cruiser (RTBoost)
1990 Toyota Celica GT Liftback...........The new daily & winter driver.
All-American Muscle: 'Cudas and Challengers...Still the Elite and always will be.
