« on: October 31, 2006 - 05:06:13 PM »
WHich would be a better choice in putting behind a 440 an A833(non hemi)or an A833OD?
is the OD unit stronger or weaker?
thanks

the Od is weaker whatever that means , I had the od in my Duster for 9 years dumping the clutch at 5500-6500 RPM it broke numerous 8 3/4s but never hurt the tranny  , you wnat a n earlier OD though , the later OD had less splines on the syncro hubs , still never seen one fail though
The od does use a larger case & brgs so it is tougher than most 23 spline trannys

thanks,I have an aluminum OD and a standard 833,guess the 833 is a better choice?or would you not put one behind a 440 no matter what?

The aluminum case versions have had issues int eh past uynder high horsepower with teh counter gear shaft loosening up in it's bore. I've never seen it myself, but I have read about it. That being said, I doubt you'll even break one unless you stick in a Dana and run slicks. Iron case ODs can be found for like $30-50 around here.

I did have steel bushings machined into 1 Alum case I used for a short time , buyt never had a problem so far with the countershaft pounding down in the case
