Tailpipe Question

My current 'Cuda has the standard exhaust coming out from the back (see pic bc7.jpg), I'd like it to look like the pic below, with the 'Cuda exhaust tips coming out of the rear (see tail-pipes.jpg).  Can that bottom piece on my car be removed and can I replace it with one that's got the cut-outs in it already ?  I don't know much about the bodies on these cars, but if I had to guess, I would think the bottom part could be replaced.  Any ideas?

You  can get a repro valance, though it may take some modifications to make it fit right. I don't remember where I got mine, but it was too wide to fit without the mods. Not a horrible job, but had to be done to make things line up right...

Is that all it is?  Just the valance?  I can slap that on and paint it and that's it (besides any modifications/problems I run into when installing it)?  I hope so, I just found one for $200.00 and I'd love to get it and put it on, of course the tail pipe tips are another story as far as $$ goes

Bob, I thought you could get the repro ones a lot cheaper than that.  I thought about switching to that kind of valance, but the tips are so high. The guy I am buying my '71 from has one on a parts car.

I bought my valance 2 years ago, and I think it was only about $125 or so. Bought the exhaust tips from Accurate Exhaust I think. They are also repros and I don't think that it was too high a cost. You should be able to find that cost on their website. Again, the biggest pain was the physical changes I had to make to the valance itself, since it was too wide. I had a body guy help with that modification since I am, by no means, a body guy myself.
Personally, I think that the cutout valance makes the whole car look much better and would do it all over again if I had to. ......

Back again..... I just checked Accurate Exhaust LTD, found the cost of the tips there to be $200. I thiink I've seen them cheaper on E-Bay, but don't know about the quality of those. Accurate's reporos look pretty good to me, though I hadn't compared them to original. Also, doni't forget that you will be modifying your exhaust system to get all of that to come out the correct place for the cutouts.

Some of the cheaper tips may only be 2" which won't be any use if you've got 2 1/2" exhaust!  I bought TTI tips which were very nice.

Yeah I saw some tips that were as low as $135.00 for chrome or $155 for stainless steel.  Since that last post I put up, I went to the board where all the websites are posted on here and found a couple sites that have the valance for cheaper, some as cheap as $165.00.  I looked at both with and without exhaust cutouts and they seem to be identical (screw hole position, bumper position, etc.) but I couldn't get an overall width.  I myself am not a body guy either , so if it needed mods, I would have to take it somewhere to get it done, not a big deal though.

Bill, could you see how much that guy is looking to get for the one on his parts car?  It may be cheap enough that I can have it sent down here and use it if it's not rusted and all.

With your exisitng exhaust, and the fact it's not original anyway, I'd just buy the cheapest ones, and plan to have the muffler shop install them with a larger diameter pipe. Factory tips are 1 7/8" pipe into the tip...I upgraded several to 2.5 or 3".

Bob,   I talked to Wayne about that valance.  He said he would take $100 for it, I have no idea what shipping would be.
