Cherry Bomb mufflers

Anyone ever heard these or had any experience with them?

There needs to be a website just dedicated to collecting sound files of different combinations.

I had them on my 71 340 wedge Duster , years ago. It had factory manifolds and it was loud.

Cherry bombs/ glass packs were very popular and loud in the day. 69 AMC Rambler Scramblers came from the factory with them. The most popular was the Thrush Muffler, which is no longer made. These type of mufflers were made illegal a long time ago.

Just took a set of cheery bomb turbos off the vert. 340 stock manifolds too loud. replaced with Walker turbos much better.

I actually had a Cherry Bomb straight thru on my Acura Integra and it sounded very nice and loud.  It didn't sound like those "fart can" mufflers you see on ricer cars.  It had a raspier note and was much louder.  I used to set off car alarms with it in parking garages.

One thing though with the straight thru mufflers is that (at least in my case) you lose some low end torque but gain some upper end HP and breathing.

Also Glass packs tend to desinagrate from the inside out.  When the steel mesh and fiberglass break up it spits out the tailpipe.  I basically had a hollow metal bullet when I got rid of this exhaust.

A lot of cars have Flowmaster mufflers and they sound OK to me but a little tinny and hollow.  I guess I'm used to Turbo Mufflers.  I heard the Hooker Aero Chamber mufflers that Chryco reccommends and they sound good.

My '71 318 had glasspacks on it when I bought it; I don't know what brand but they were painted blue and quite long and had a wonderful mellow sound.  I  replaced them with Walker glasspacks when they wore out, the longest I could get in 2" tube size, but they were quite a bit shorter and louder than the units they replaced.  Never had actual Cherry Bombs.

I think the blue ones you mentioned were made by walker and call continetals. I have cherry bombs on my 70 challenger and they sound great. Nice rumble to them and really bark when you run the rpms up. If you cruise at a higher rpm they might get annoying. My 2 cents.

My dads car had Cherry bombs on it when he bought it and we both hated them. The car just made too much noise and drew way to much attention. Dont get me wrong, I love the sound of Mopars....just that I dont like hearing it nonstop while I am cruising around trying to relax. Anyway, long story short....the exhaust was scrapped and Magnaflows were put on his car. My advice is if you want the loudness of cherry bombs then simply do away with the mufflers with a flick of the switch by getting some electric dumps

ok, here is a question...memory states that the location of a muffler will make a difference in sound... under the floor vs under the trunk for example...any input?

   I'm curious too.  Also I wonder if it effects the back pressure if the muffler is located further downstream than in the typical location under the rear seat area?

Here's a link that shows muffler flow values.  It looks like you have to watch out what type of glasspack muffler you get because the ones that have the inward punched louvers actually flow much less than a turbo muffler.

Flowmasters don't seem to flow so good after all!

Flowmasters didn`t rate too bad but the Dynomax and ecspecially the Hookers outperformed them!
