I would consider putting a b-body rear. You can then run a 10" wheel with 5" B.S.....Muscle cars look goofy without enough dish.   You can get a 8 3/4 b-body housing and axles for under $200.
For tires I would use a 295/45/18 in the rear and 245/45/17 for the front. They fill up wheel well nicely.....285/55/18 tire looks too big

If you want some nice wheels......get some like HemiDog

How close is that tire to the leafspring and fender lip? Can't Challengers take a little more tire in the back than Cudas? I'm just wondering if that might work on a Challenger with a B body rear end and a 1" Dr. Diff relocation kit and a little fender lip rolling?

Here's some close ups of the tire in the wheelwell.  I had a 1/2" wood block propped between the tire and the wheelwell on the inside.  You would probably want to roll the fenderlip for additional clearance.

I'm not lookign to try and find another rear end and such. And the 295/45/18s are like $250 per tire from what I've found which is way overbudget for me. I am 19, I can't quite buy everything as ideal, I need to make some stuff work. My checkbook is very very thin having a broken car, moving, getting a new job, and having to buy a new daily driver. bear with me.  :screwy:

Sorry for bumpin an old thread. I'm finally back on topic onto doing this.

For the front rims. I'm looking for the most 'deep dish' i can get. here is what i'm looking at from the website i'm pretty sure i'm going with.

Front

17x8, +0mm offset (4.50" backspacing)

If i understand that right, i should have 3.5" on the face side of the rim, to the back of the hub. which isn't much figuring the other side of the hub is probably about 1.5" or so wide. Correct?

For the rear, I am NOT moving the springs. Stock wheel wells.

BEST i can find is 18x9 5x4.50" +24mm offset (5.95" backspacing). How well will it fit/what am i going to need to do to get this wheel to fit back there?

I'm not sure if you are aware of this tool on this website, but it is extremely useful: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/rt_specs.jsp

Good luck!

That is pretty darn handy. So my best bet is to pull a tire and break out the tape measurer i assume. Any tips/suggestions?

17 x 8 x 0 offset for the front is correct.

But for the rear - almost 6" back space probably wont work, will hit the springs. If you dont want to move the springs maybe a 17 x 9 x 0 offset (5"bs) would work. Or you will need to use a spacer.

I use 17 x 10 x .5" offset (6" bs) with a 3/4 spring relocation kit 285x40x17 plenty of room, kumo ecsta spt tires which cost like 125.00 each.

These 285 tires dont bulge out much when on a 10" wheel, but on a 9" wheel they will bulge out a little so when you measure check for at least 5.5" from the axel flange to the spring.

Tire section width is also going to impact backspace/offset selection as well. 5" of rear backspace on the rear rim is possible so long as you don't go too wide on the tire and too narrow on the rim. Excessive sidewall bluge will wipe out your calculations. A 9" rim and 285 tire would be about the max on this and you might still need to juggle some spacers from .062 to .125 to get it just right. I beleive there are a few members here running 5" back space on 17 or 18x10" rims with 275 and 285 tires with no issues at all. Check the fitment database as they are in there.

My avatar has 15x8 with 5" back space and a 295 tire. I have a large amount of sidewall bulge with this combo and it required me to use a .25 spacer to get the tire off the spring pack and it leaves me about a .25 inch to the rear segment of the spring with the spacer, but almost 2" to the wheel lip. Also, don't forget that your leaf springs are wider in the rear than the front, so if your measurements barely fit on the front segment, they won't fit at all on the rear segment.

I also have the same fit up issues with the rim in the front. 5" back space was too much so another .25 spacer for 4.75 backspace is the max I could go before hitting the upper ball joint. However, with a 17" rim you would have an extra 1" of radial clearance so it would not be as critical. I have a 235 tire so there is no problems with rubbing otherwise. you could probably go as big as 255 on the tire up front before it starts rubbing anywhere.

Use your current wheel/tire combo on the left side of the screen (then the results make more sense), and also temporarily uncheck the tire specs on the little drawing screens in order to set the wheel specs (otherwise it may be impossible to set the wheel backspacing). I just used a ruler with my old tires and wheels still mounted. I bought one of those Percy's wheel sizers http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=PHP%2D01201&N=700+4294925139+4294772430+115&autoview=sku, but this program and a ruler turned out to be enough.

Thanks Rusty. If they made the wheel I'm looking at in a 5" backspacing, I'd be in buisness! However, the smallest amount of backspacing I have been able to find is 5.95". Thats plain it, across the board, from what I have found. I'd Really like to stick with this specific wheel, so what would my options be? Would I be able to install some ARP longer studs and run a MINIMAL spacer to get the clearance I would need? I believe I've read someone here with a similar size getting away with 5.5"bs and stock suspension on the back.

Autophile, were you the one with the pictures of mustang wheels on your car? Did the wheels fit fine with no modifications? The hubs?

Thanks

This is lookin like the game plan

17x8 0mm offset up front, probably 245/55/17 - 9.6" Patch, 27" Tall
18x9 +24mm on the back, likely 255/45/R18 - 10" patch, 28" tall

I'll need some sort of spacer setup i'm sure. but ill make em work  :pullinghair: :eek4:

Those are nice rims, Mike.  :grinyes:

They look like the Bullitt rims on the Mustangs.  Too bad the Ford ones don't fit right.  I like the look too and would like 17" rims for cheap.  I saw a set in nice shape with tires for $400 on craigslist.  :banghead:

Nope, that wasn't me. However, I did just experience something applicable to your thread. I just received and mounted my new billet rallye wheels and tires. They are 17x8 with 4.5 bs and 255/45-17 on front, and 18x9.5 with 5.5 bs and 295/45-18 on rear. The rears cleared everything no problem. One of the fronts rubbed on the lower corner of the fender so I had to tweak it a little bit. I'm telling you, that little sizing program kicks butt!

Here's a couple of quick shots to show how they fit on the car.
