Nope, that wasn't me. However, I did just experience something applicable to your thread. I just received and mounted my new billet rallye wheels and tires. They are 17x8 with 4.5 bs and 255/45-17 on front, and 18x9.5 with 5.5 bs and 295/45-18 on rear. The rears cleared everything no problem. One of the fronts rubbed on the lower corner of the fender so I had to tweak it a little bit. I'm telling you, that little sizing program kicks butt!

Here's a couple of quick shots to show how they fit on the car.

That looks awesome, so a little rubbing on the front, and none on the back? So i should need need ~.5" of a spacer on my car with the 6" BS. Sounds good, thanks guys  :cheers:

There is someone over on the moparts board that makes billet spacers to mount the mustang bullet wheels. I forget who makes them but PeteRR has them on his B body. You might contact him and ask about them.  Since Pete beats on his car pretty regularly, he can give you real world feedback about the arrangement.

So 295's will fit on the rear with 5.5" BS...any offset...stock spring location?   Looks like that is what I'll go ahead and get.  Any side shots of the car?   :2thumbs:

I have stock spring locations. However, my wheel lip moldings are bent up for additional clearance (done by the previous owner...). With the lip laid down in the stock position, rubbing might occur. The best thing to do is just use that little sizing program and check the clearances on your car before you commit to a wheel purchase. Or, you can buy one of those Percy's wheel sizers and mock it up exactly. FYI, I would sell my wheel sizer to you if you are interested.

I'm running stock leaf springs, the same ones from when my car had a 340, I believe. My tires are Nitto 555's, which I bought from America's Tire Co. They were around $850 for the set, out the door including installation.

Sorry, not to change the topic, but that's a lot of $$$!!! 

Is there a poor man's way of getting 17" tires and rims?  Are there any alternatives that use existing 17" wheel from other manufacturers?  I saw a set of 17" steel wheels and hubcaps on craigslist for $60 and thought the backspace was too deep, but it got me thinking.   I was thinking of the Infinity G35 coupe rims.  :clueless:  I know the Ford Bullit wheel hub and backspace doesn't fit quite right.

You may be able to find cheaper wheels, but you will still have high tire prices in these sizes.  It is just the way it is.  My BMW has 18's and needs tires.  It will cost $860 to replace the set and they are not as large as what is being used on the Challengers.

Thanks for the reply, Challenger6pak.  I guess with not a lot of $$ to play with I thought about getting a used set.  I saw a nice set of infinity rims with tires for $350.   The nice thing about those Infinity sets is that the rear tires/rims are wider than the fronts.  The bolt pattern is the same but I have no idea about the back space.  Also, it might look cheesy.  Actually I know it'll look cheesy.....  :faint:

This will work, and there are new, inexpensive 17" steel rims out there, for trucks. As such, using them on your car will make it handle like a truck. At roughly a third more the weight of a steel rallye wheel, they aren't lightweights.

Mustang take offs and copies are the cheapest, lightest way to get into the 17" wheel game. Tires are another story, but if you stick with some smallish 245 and 255 sizes, it may not get too expensive.
