Glad you got it off. Your engine has the cast in support ribs so it was made from 68 on. I bought a starter from autozone too and had to do the whole thing over about 2 months later because it went out. I hope you have better luck with yours.

You should have got the smaller High torque starter for a little more money. Just ask for a later model Ram truck with a 5.2 or 5.9. The car will start faster without the anoying whinning noise.

The engine cast date is on the block, try looking on the other side.

I forget what chapter we are on now.  Put the new starter on along with the header........Had to work them both in combination at same time to install.......Anyway , got all hooked up and it started.........after 1 1/2 years.  I think I must have swapped a couple of plug wires how it sounds but.............. :working:..............Ok I tried to attach a short video but it was too large..........It has the sounds of the engine.  I will post the link to my website for it when my son updates that.  I hope it will be tonight............Later, David

PS   I looked up the firing order  1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2.. and going from the engine piston layout........Right side being 1357 and the left being 2468. Standing in front on the engine, As viewed from the rear to front.    With the rotation of the dist  being counterclockwise.

Correct or not????????????????  Thanks ,David

Based on that layout..........I got then all wrong.............  Clarify that the #1 plug is on the drivers side and the first one at the radiator.  Thanks, David

David,

Do not start that car again till you get that firing order corrected.
That video plays a sound of an engine with a misfire or bad intake valve.

Pull all of the plugs, put a timing light on number 1 wire, lay all of the plugs with the wires plugged onto them on the valve covers, then crank and set your timing to about 8 degrees advance.  Lock down the distributor, then start checking the firing order while installing the plugs.

We have a video section now.  Don't pay too much attention to the Start it up one. That was when It was rough.  Look at the second video.   And I will put more on this weekend.........Not bad after setting 1 1/2  years.

OK.........Now have 6 videos loaded.   The first 4 are rough.  I did some timing and new plugs(should have before) and the engine now sounds a lot better.  There is still some adjusting to be done on the 750 carb.  Too rich.  Floundered in the driveway this morning and when it caught I layed down some rubber.  Let me know how it sounds now.  David

David, Sounds like home,  :burnout: GREAT To See & Hear your progress  :2thumbs: . I had some of the same issues after mine had sat for 15 years. Could not believe what an improvement new wires & plugs could make. Then added a new Accell Super Stock coil & WOW what a difference. The rich/raw gas fumes that had always been associated with my car disappeared.

Thanks to all who posted on this thread.  I used the information and  based on video 435........I think it worked well.  I will start another post concerning the transmission soon.  It seems to  go into gear rather harshly.  And remembering that I still have more tuning to do on the engine.  Just from what little I have had it on the road....I want to be careful on rainy days!!!!!!!!!!!! :burnout: :burnout:  THANKS AGAIN, DAVID
