Thanks sleepychallenger. I think I'll make my decision this weekend, whether or not to go 70 or 71. It gets frustrating explaining the car to people when the see it and can't figure out what year it is. Money wise, 1971 would be easier since it would only need the front end.

My second thought is to find a 71 rear and make it a 71 clone since it already has the rear end and rear quarter gills. They are origainal magnesium gills as well. What do you all think?

You could say that it's a late model '70 that got '71 parts?  Yes?  No?    :D

Probably no....  :walkaway:

I'll recheck the VIN and cowl tag and see what they say again. I kinda thought it might be possible to have a 71 with a late 70 tag.

On second thought, I looked in the trunk and there is only one wire for the reverse lights. It's not pluged into anything. I actually waited two years for a reverse wire harness from year one (the one that runs to the tranny). Would like to call Chip Foose and have him overhaul my car! I know I have some pictures of the rear end. I'll scan some picture and load them up. You'll swear it's a 71 with a 72 front clip. I saw an acticle this week about a place that makes after market dashes. Only the spedo works in mine. The place is called Rocky mountain dashes and they set up for after market gauges. Would like a set of all Autometers in it.

I have ended up with a couple of  questions.  Starting with the front of the car.  Do the side marker lights have an indentation around them in the metal?  If the headlight buckets are removed from a 70-71 fender the 72-74 header panel can be used.  You may have 70 fenders.  Either way your fenders can be made into 70 fenders by adding a headlight bucket panel.  On your rear frame rails are the e-brake lines mounted together, one on top of the other, or are they each mounted to a separate frame rail?  To change the car to 70 you will need a pair of 70-71 headlight bucket panels, a 70 grille, a taillight panel, and the taillight/ reverse light assembly.  I am curious about your E-brake lines.  Let me know.

Since you want a '70, build yourself a '70.  Forget what your friends say, it's your car. The rear panel can be "adjusted" to fit the '70 tailights with a little creative welding since it is all hidden by the light assemblies.
For the front grill, if you find some junk 70 or 71 fenders, with good headlight buckets in them, you could cut those out and weld them into your fenders.  Look at a '70 up close and you'll see everything that you need.

Don't laugh. My Buddy who really knows his Mopar stuff says he knew of a Challenger that got front 71 fenders and side lamps but the rear had 72 markers when car was new.   :dunno:

I have a 70 tail panel I will trade you for your 71. Whole lot of drilled out spot welds though.

I want to make sure I have all my body parts in hand and lined up before I go changing anything right now. Once the car is rewired, It'll run the way it looks. I need to check the rear panel and make sure the 70 panel is not there and only has been moded to fit the 71 lights I have now.
