Tinted or not?
« on: November 14, 2006 - 08:19:59 PM »
Would my 70 Chally vert have a tinted band across the top of the windshield or not?  The windshield currently in it does have a brownish tint at the top.  I have to replace it and want to get the right one.
Thanks  :feedback:

I believe tinted glass was a manditory option on the A/C cars.  Tinted glass was an option on non-A/C cars.  Did your car come with A/C.  If it did it would have the tinted band on the sheild.  Also are your side windows clear or tinted?  Do the date codes on your door glass match?  If they do and if they are within a couple of months prior to the build date of your car it is a good possibility they are original.  That is still only a possibility.  Are they tinted of not?  In the end I would go with tinted glass if the rest of the glass is tinted and clear if the glass is clear. It is unlikely but possible that all of the glass in the car has been changed out.  Even without a buildsheet the glass should indicate which direction you should go.

Look at your back and side glass too, if it's greenish then I think your front has to be tinted (I don't think you could get the others without a front).  I think the front tint is greenish too.

for future reference, here are the factory codes for glass:

1969-1973
G11 Tinted glass (all)
G12 Tinted glass (side glass only)
G15 tinted glass (windshield)
G18 Clear windshield
*******if the box on your build sheet is empty, all standard glass was used (quite rare)
1974
G11 Tinted glass (all)
G12 Tinted glass (side glass only)
G15 Tinted glass (windshield)

My AAR has the G15 code...only a tinted windshield, with clear side glass...I know this is an old post, but thought my reply would be helpful..
