that is what teflon tape is for , each pup seems to use different fittings but they should be using flare fittings which do not ever need teflon tape as the threads do not seal the fitting

I've used a hacksaw blade to hold the rod up. It allows you to get the pump alittle farther in before you have to withdraw it. I tried one night with a screwdriver to change a pump in the dark and colder than heck. It was almost enough to make me get the for sale sign out! :banghead:

Update:

Turning the motor with the key did not work. I think that method is just to innacurate.

I ended up getting a 1 1/4" socket to turn crank by hand.

With the pump out, the compression was low enough to pretty easily rotate it around with a ratchet.

At that point, I could turn it over until the cam lobe rotated out of the way and the pump rod was at it's high point.

Pump went right in without a fuss after that.

Frankly, I'm surprised that no one else seems to have encountered this as that pump was not going in before I turned the cam lobe out of the way. No way, no how. Bolts would have sheared off before it went in as it was.

Err... uh... yeah. What you said. :)

Missed that one somehow....

At any rate,  at least I'm not alone in having that be an issue during the install.
