Do you restore those? Is that a reporduction resistor? Details Details !!!
Hi Lunchbox,
Yes, the resistor coils were custom made for me. That is what goes wrong with these whether it's from corrosion where they skip through the range of dimming or typically break between the small diameter taper to the large diameter. I had very little success in finding anyone that was willing to even listen to me on line or in person about custom making these. I walked into this one shop and was just about ready to be told again to get lost when one of the higher ups in the front office asked from behind his desk “What are you going to do with that”. When I told him it would be to restore a dimmer switch for a Cuda or Challenger, he smiled and told one of the underlings I was talking to make it happen. Here he was a mopar guy.
Having one with me that I had removed as a sample, they took it and matched it exactly from the stainless steel material, gauge diameter, gapping and number of turns. The gapping is different on the smaller diameter and the larger diameter. Without that smaller diameter section, the ring clip will not sit right in the tray and the collector arm will catch. The rest of the parts are thoroughly cleaned and reassembled and tested. I have seen some on EBAY that say they are restored but never mention replacing the resistor coil.
A friend of mine pushed me into doing this when he was replacing his last working one he had and said "I wish there was a way to restore these." and off I went.
I only showed the picture of them about to be assembled because of my newbie thread instructions:
Thanks for asking,
