Really, with all the things that have been guessed so far, it can only be a carb linkage for the 6 barrel.? 
  I havn't had one yet so I am just guessing.  I don't know which carb.  but there isn't much left to guess towards. 
  OR is there??

It is not linkage, but it does support something that affects how the linkage works. 

If five people cry "uncle" before a correct guess comes my way I will reveal the answer.

The outer carbs are opened by vaccum but they still have linkage, they have to be held closed until needed.

If you fil the picture around it would appear to the where the secondary throttle linkage connects on a Thermoquad.
