Direction for my `72
« on: November 19, 2006 - 04:23:57 AM »
Changing a bunch of things over the winter on the `72 the biggest being a new engine combo but it also needs a new look as it`s been pretty much unchanged for 9+ years now.To start I`m adding a modified AAR hood and fiberglass front bumper, maybe painting the grill a charcoal or black color and adding a stripe.I am also changing the wheels and tires but am undecided as to go with a more retro style 15 " or maybe a modern 17" Pro Touring look wheel.Whichever way I take with the wheels will be carried over to some other items like gages and underhood stuff and of course will influence the stripe choice-either a factory style or more modern custom look. The retro look is classic and will always look great-the Pro Touring look is cool but I`m worried it will look dated in a couple years.Opinions?  :feedback:

This is how it looks currently except the rear spoiler is body color now.

Torred, your car looks great but if you are looking for a change the pro touring wheels would look good. How about keeping your wheels that you already have to switch every so often  just  to change the look.If you are adding a stripe I think the stripe like 4C has on his vert would look good on your car in black. Whatever you decide it will still look good. Just my :2cents:

Just to give you an idea on what I like- this would not be my first chioce of wheels but the car is classy and subtle but a modern Pro Tourer.Foose does nice work but his cars are too overdone and I think 20`s are just too big on an E-body.

Well I like that modified AAR hood alot. I'd say go with that for sure. I'm partial to the retro look as you can see below. I like alot of the newer wheels but think those big 17-19"ers belong on newer type cars. Few pics below of my hood and retro Cuda, the Keystones keep it period correct.

Torred,

We are of the same mold. I'm always changing something. Your car looks SWEET!! I would like to see some side stripes to break it up a bit, but I'm partial to that kind of look. Just my 2 pennies.  :2cents:

Choppin-I love your car and the paint is awesome but not exactly the look I`m thinking of.I did the 60`s look with the `69,yours is `80`s cool but I`m either going 70`s retro with Cragars or toque Thrusts or Pro Touring.

Bullit-the Trans-Am look is another idea I had since I`m going with an AAR hood and thought of adding a front spoiler and doing the race look but I`m not sure?  :dunno:

Mike, stripes are a definite just not sure what yet?I think I have adault ADD and get bored easy so i need to change something     :dunno:

Too many options and I can`t decide i guess.   :pullinghair:

I'd say 70's would be a great look. Love those metal flake flames on your 69

Sooner or later, what's old is new again. Personally I don't like the big wheels on muscle cars. If I want to customize something, I'll buy a rice burner, but classic Mopar never goes out of style!

You can get the hood that is on the Yellow 72.  I don't know the cost.  I'm going to have the guys that made it make a couple of things for me.  I was in contact with them today.  I was looking into a carbon fiber replacement dash pad. Send an email to Fred fred@musclecarrestorations.com and he will give you an answer.

Sincde you asked, I'd leave the chrome bumper, paint the grille black, and put a stripe like Goodys on it.  I'd keep the wheels at 15" and do something period: Cragar S/S, Wheel Vintiques Magnum 500s, Keystones, etc.  And I'd put the spoiler back to black.  My  :2cents:.

I`ll check into it but afraid it`s out of my lowly budget so I`ll probably have to biuld my own.
