Are benchseat Cudas rare?
« on: November 19, 2006 - 10:54:30 PM »
I ran across a very rough project Cuda today. Its a 70, 318, AT car, and it has a bench seat. I don't ever remember seeing a Cuda with bench seats. Anyone know how many they made?

I do not know how many, but they made a fair number of them. I have always had a soft spot for the bench seat / column shift cars.

Yes but in the higher engined cars, 440's HEMIS etc....
T/A's and AAR's very rare and R/T's too but not as much as the Trans-Am cars.

Their cool, I had one but converted, one of the best mods ever.
Cool for cruising but going around corners is like being in a zoom tube you slip & slid everywhere.  :eek4:

I don't know the exact number built but as Barry said, there were a good number of them. My 70 440 six barrel Cuda is a bench seat column shift auto, standard dash car.

It's about as basic as you could order one if you don't count the AM radio, Sure Grip rear end, Shaker Hood, and belt & wheel opening moldings.

Basically I think it's cool for what it is more so for what it insn't.

From the outside the car appears to have buckets due to the individual seat backs sticking up. :2cents:

As far as the T/A and AARs go, 7 T/As are known so far with bench seats and 71 AARs are known with bench seats.

The bench seat was actually an extra cost item in the Challengers.

For whatever reason, the Plymouth side usually has more bench seats than Dodge, I have seen several Superbirds with them.

I looked at a 71 Cuda, black/black V code bench seat column shift car in the early 90's. all original car needing full resto...could have got it for $5500. I passed on it since it was column shift.

I had a 71 /6 Challenger parts car with the  high back bench seat, I always thought they were fugly. Someone stole the seats and doors later on after I had learned they are fairly rare  :dunno:

I have a 71 cuda 383 with a bench seat column shift automatic.  Standard guages.  I think A/C is the only real option.

There is a guy near me that has a 70 Cuda 440 , AT on the column, spilt bench , blue/ blue with a white hockey stick stripe. He said he wants to sell it to get a 71 Cuda. :dunno: My 70 Barracuda was a 225 , with the split bench blue/blue. And back in the late 80's a friend of mine had a 71 Cuda 440 six pack, split bench . white with blue interior.

Sounds like a cool car, but one things been changed for sure.....There was no other color hockey stripe available from the factory but black in 1970. Not to mention that he better save his pennys if he wants an equivelent 71 Cuda, they are selling for allot more than 70's these days.

Are you sure about that? I used to have a lime green 70 with black hockey sticks but I have seen white and red also  :clueless:

Did the stripe on the 71's only come black? I know I seen a nice black 71 cuda with white billboard stripe, just wondering if it came like that.

The old "never say never with Mopar" applies here but I can say for certain that I've never seen a SINGLE documented example of a Cuda ever comming from the factory with anything other than black hockey stripes in 1970. Keep in mind that reproduction stripes have been made since the late 70's, there are allot of white and red ones out there, just not factory issue.

In 1971 the Cuda Billboard stripes were available in Black or White.
