    RT/SE need some buying advice

     Here's the deal, I want a 70-71 big block RT 4spd Callenger. I flew down and looked at a 70 RT/SE 383 4spd, PS, PB, air ( not all there)  rust free non matching # car this weekend. it's true car other than the engine #'s not matching it has a nice but not great paint job, fresh engine,tranny, top,interior, ect.  runs and drives out great and it's very original. but all the trim, dash,bumpers,wheel mouldings and little stuff are in bad shape. I know from this discription it's not real easy to say but he want's 40K for it and I'm thinking of offering him 3 or 4 K less to take care of the stuff that needs fixed  but I really doubt he'll take it. is 40K a fair price ? 36 or 37? or should I keep looking? I've been in the market for a while now and 4spd big blocks are not on every corner. maybe you long time mopar guys might have a better feel on this, I'm not that cheap but I don't think 40k is really much of a deal but I don't know.

    Hard to say without seeing the car, but it sounds a tad high to me for a non matching car that needs a lot of little things done.  The devil is in the details and sometimes those extraneous parts/pieces are either very expensive, or very hard to find.  Good luck and let us know how it turns out.....     :cooldancing:       Oldschool

    $40K seems like the price for a car that doesn't need anything - not restored, mind you, but all there.  Sounds quite a bit high for a car that needs a lot and doesn't match #s.

    40K is way to high!  I would love to see these car bring that much money, but they just are not right now.

     :iagree: with what's been said.  For all the things you've listed, I'd say a better figure would be around $30,000, not $40,000.00. :2thumbs:

     Maybe the market isn't as high as I thought, that would explain why 90% of the ebay cars never meet the reserve. sounds like my 36k offer is plenty fair. it's a nice car it just needs finished, the pressure is on now after driving it I gotta have an E body because I flat I loved it.

    With keeping your 36k inmind, you may want to start negotiating around 32 and work your way up,, Its woth a try and like others have said,, all those incidential parts will cost youanother 2k plus labor costs... So i may try a lower offer and see what happens.. The seller just may agree or he's looking for someone who doesnt know much about these cars, or he watches to much Barrett Jackson and thinks his non #'s car can bring top $$$$

    remember this...if the paint job is fair, but will have to be repainted it might as well be primer.
    Don't pay extra for it. Same for interior.
    Also, the special SE trim parts can be very expensive and hard to find.

    I think that the car is overpriced by at least 5k to begin with and if parts are missing then I would make a list, find out how much the parts are worth, and deduct that much more from the asking price. The best advice I can give is to make sure all the SE trim is there and dent free because it can get pretty expensive to replace it. The belt trim is all stainless and will polish out nicely, so if its there you should be fine. The rear SE trunk panel is really expensive to repair or buy so make sure it has one in good condition. The front seats are leather and quite expensive to have redone so make sure they are correct. Ohh and since the car is a R/T, make sure the rallye cluster is in good working order or deduct that too.

    Does it HAVE to be a Special Edition R/T?

    I think you can find decent 383 4-speed R/Ts for under $40k.

    If I was in the market for another e-body, I would snag this in a NY minute for $20k (reserve price):

    40K is way to high, seen non matching RT/SE in good shape go for 25K, but if you find a RT/SE rustbucket without motor please tell me :bigsmile:
