Interesting that the thread from the dead got bumped up.   Here's a little update for you folks.

Things have been somewhat hectic with the layoff in August (that's why I was starting a new job at the beginning of August), starting the new job the following Monday and having to deal with the housing situation.  Work has been busy as hell - so hopefully after the end of this year, they'll give me tons of money.   I've been working Michigan almost every week since the end of January, so I have not been home long enough to even finished getting moved in.   The garage at the new house in Thomasville NC is tiny, real tiny.  Two cars my ass is all I have to say.   At any rate, I was waiting around to have enough "extra" money to build a storage building out back so I'd have a place to put my bikes, yard tools, Christmas decoration stuff, wife's misc. stuff, etc, etc.   Well, I've been home now for about 4 days, and I decided to say to hell with it and go get my car from the old house in Callands VA yesterday.   I figured if I went and picked it up, it would force me to make room in the garage for it.  Well, that worked.

At any rate, if I want to do anything to the car, I have to move all that other stuff out and move the car about halfway out of the garage, but it's better than having it sitting 100 miles away in a garage where I can't touch it.  Maybe I'll be posting some progress over the summer.  I still have to wire in a 220V outlet for my compressor, but that'll happen before too long.   My neighbors are going to literally hate me when I start working on this thing. :lmao:

I hear ya in regards to space.  Maybe they meant two VW Bettles!!!  LOL!  It makes it difficult when you have to unload the garage when ever you want to work on it and put all that stuff back in when you're done.  But you do it!

It would be a 2 car garage for normal people. That's what my wife always says. But we car guys have a sickness that is only cured by death when the surviving spouse throws it all out to make it a normal garage again.

As a matter of fact, yes.

I've spent most of the past year on the road for work - either in the US or over in Europe.  I've been gone an average of 2 weeks a month.  Now that I'm back home for a bit, I've been planning on things to accomplish between now and say, Feb of 2012.  I've got most of the parts to assemble the cylinder heads - so hopefully I can have all the machine work done by December.   The plan is (if I don't have to leave town) to have this thing fired up by Christmas.   That would be my present to ME.   :grinyes:

Well, there has been a slight bit of progress, but as always, work keeps me away from home.  I had the valve job done and the guides sized in the heads.  Now I just need to do some bowl blending and set them up and get them on the engine.....after that...shove in the engine in the car and plumb everything up and break in the cam.   Maybe I'll have something to report in the coming months.
