71 R/T SE?
« on: November 25, 2006 - 08:49:24 PM »
I know they made "formal roof" Challengers in 71, but did they make SE's? I have never seen a 71 R/T SE. If not, could you order a 71 R/T with the formal roof offering?

by "formal roof" do you mean small S.E. window?
Any other years for the formal roof after '71.?

This causes some confusion fairly often.

The 29 in the VIN was not used for 1971 the way it was used in 1970 to note an SE.

But, the A78 Formal Roof Package for 1971 did include SE nameplates.

Were any of the other '70 SE goodies carried over as part of the '71 pkg.?
And are they rightfully called SE's :dunno:

They had the small rear window, formed headlining and SE badges.

No mention of outside moldings, leather seats or carpeted door panels. I see no reason not to call it an SE since the badges were included in the package. They are pretty scarce, I do not ever remember seeing one in person.

I got parts including the headliner out of a wrecked formal roof 71 challenger back in the eighties, there were three others in town I knew of, none carried S.E. badges & this is the first time I've ever heard that they did.. :clueless:

It is something I have always been curious about. Badges on the C pillar? Door panels? Both? I would love to know.  :1zhelp:

A local guy told me he was looking at buying one, if he did buy it I have not heard. I saw him at the store today and did not think to ask him about it, but I will the next time I see him.

Thats why I was asking, I have seen pictures of 71 formal roof cars or SE's if you will, but none of the cars in the pics I saw had SE emblems on the C-pillar. I would love to see a picture of a 71 R/T with the SE or formal roof option!

My car is a real 71 R/T SE car but roof was removed years ago and wagon roof installed. But it does have door panel emblems and the chrome belt trim along doors and hood. can get pic of fender tag also if that would help. I have heard they made 112 71 SE car that includes R/T and regular challengers. A friend of mine also has a 71 R/T se car and it had no roof emblems.

Pretty car, does it have the molded headliner and consolette? I bet that car was a looker in its original Fire Engine red with white top/gut  :cooldancing:
