A friend of mine just traded a GC to some car dealer in GA for a '69 RS Z28 clone.  :dupe: His GS was a nice solid car with excellent paint, a 318 car that now has a 440 in it.  My friend is bragging he got the better of the deal, I told him he was crazy!
If anyone sees a dealer selling a red GC with a cuda hood and hockey stripe decals let me know, I am interested in seeing what the dealer tries to sell it for so I can rub it in to my friend that trading a Barracuda for a Camaro is never a good deal. :2cents:

I own two gran coupes, both bought cheaply back in the early 90's. The 71 version, I transformed into the cuda that I still drive today. Luckily, the 70 is still in storage and wasn't converted. Never realized that GC's would eventually be worth as much as they are today. Looking back I realize that I took a rare 71 GC and converted it into a clone of a not as rare cuda. Too late to go back now, but at least I won't make that mistake with the 70.

Well, regardless of who the seller is what I'm seeing (signs of a quicky re-paint, wrong color finish panel, etc. basically shined up for a quick sale) looks like a possible/probable shill bidding situation, bids or prices mean very little unless the reserve has been met. The car is decent looking but there's no way I spend that kind of money without a personal inspection, especially for an "L" code (383 2barrel car) plus too many signs of a "Perfumed Pig" IMO

I don't trust ebay.  Anyone can bid on their on stuff.  Dealers love to bid up their own stuff.

ALSO, why is it if this car is so original why does it have the wrong ralley cluster?  That doesn't look like a 70 ralley gauge to me.   :clueless:
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

Right Cody, too many things are wrong or missing for that car to have been a " nice low mile original" to begin with, it's obviously had allot of work done and some pretty major componants replaced (i.e. the dash cluster) for that to be very believable.

Things I noticed right off include:

Wrong color tail panel paint (should be argent silver)
Missing the Gran Coupe only rocker moldings
Wrong air cleaner (2 barrel cars did not have "383 Commando" pie tins)
Wrong Year Dash Cluster
Spray bombed under carriage
Engine has a TON of incorrect items, looks like it needs a bunch of details corrected
Outer body repaint poorly taped off and bled into the engine bay
Lists the fender tag codes but no picture of the tag itself, is it real? Is there a BS sheet?
There's more but you get the picture by now I'm sure.

Again, even with it's issues it APPEARS to be a decent car and IMO condeming the car outright without a personal inspection wouldn't be fair, however as I said before, no way I'd bid anywhere near that amount without seeing it in person.

The auction ended early at 35K.  :clueless: Yes, there were issues, but definitely worth 35K if that's what someone paid.

Some people tend to forget that some of the GC's are everything the BS model is and more. Sure some came with the 318 motor and anorexic transmission. But some of these cars came fully loaded with the 383 4 bbl motor, 727 trans, Hemi suspension (not sure what that means but it's in the broadcast sheet), 26" radiator, Power Bulge hood, quick ratio steering, rally gauges, buckets and more. I don't care how you break that down, it's a Cuda. Then add to that the creature comforts like A/C, upgraded interior, upgrade trim package, Am-Fm MX stereo, Rim Blo steering wheel, etc., and you have a kick ass car. It seems that when people learned about the BH, BS, BP codes, they were trying to avoid the base model BH cars (looking for the Cudas). Due to the fact that the BP cars are so much rarer, most people figured they wouldn't see one. In order to simplify things, they kept it in their minds to look for the BS code. This kept it simple. Double that with the fact that the BP cars are hard to authenticate without documentation and some people avoid them all together.  Those in the know, will agree... a fully loaded 383 / 727 BP model is worth every bit as much as a Cuda; provided it has the proper documentation.

My brother had a limelight GC that had a 383 4 barrel , 4 speed pistol grip. It was a left over at the dealership and they installed the 71 billboards on it to sell it. And he is kicking his own butt for selling it.

Here's a 1970 Gran Coupe convertible I helped my uncle restore back in the early 90's, it's since been sold and I don't know where it is now. It was a pretty nicely optioned example, N-code 383 HP, auto, console, 6 way Seat, PS, PB, PT, CC, Dual Chrome Sport Mirrors, Upper body belt moldings, Rallye Dash, Road Wheels, AM/FM, Front Rubber Bumper, etc.

It was restored to match the options on the fender tag. Car was a basket case minus drive train when we bought it in Jacksonville FL, no original drive train but casting date correct replacements were put back into it.
