Never saw any numbers, but the 70 rt/se 440-6 I used to own had one. The guy I bought it from had a 71 cuda 440-6 with one also.

Reasonably rare that's for sure. Mine is an original 70 R/T 440ci column shift bucket seat car and when I posted around a few years back and did research no one could offer me any kinds of figures infact, they had trouble finding any or knowing of any with the same combo. Bench seat column wouldn't be "too" rare, buckets more so. What is yours?

I do not have any production numbers for it, but I have seen a lot of them with and without buckets seats, so it seams fairly common to me.

T/A's and AARS or all R/T cars? You must have seen most of your cars in the last 2 years then?  :dunno:

http://challenger.mpoli.fi/forum/viewtopic.php?p=14400&highlight=#14400

All the research I did for my car and I found diddley squat. I found 1 perhaps 2 column shift #'s matching 440 R/T cars and a few 383's and trust me I searched the deepest realms of the Internet. (scary!) I know there are show cars etc but with only 1800(ish) made I must have seen 1799. LOL  :grinno: Also, I guess what it comes down to is whats rare in someone else's eye isn't rare to another's.

I was reffering to just R/Ts. AARs are quite common with column shift though.

I see. I guess there would be a few R/T's considering all engines from 383> including 71 cars. Topic at hand though is 440 Magnum R/Ts for 1970 and this is where I could hardly find any (buckets) owning one myself and no one including yourself had any idea of numbers, though this was a few years ago.

Weren't most, if not all cars, (not including customer orders) that were column shift with buckets, factory? executive cars? There was that 70 440-6bbl Cuda on My Classic Car with Dennis that was optioned like that and they were saying something along those lines. I can't remember exactly though, was a bit drunk getting Mopar amped late at night.

It had nothing to do with exectutive cars. Anybody could get column shift. If you did not specify a console at the time of the order or if you ordered the bench seat you got column shift automatically with the auto trans cars.

I have seen quite a few column shift 440 Six Pack and Hemi powered cars... I would estimate 15-20%  :dunno:

My FY1 Cuda 440-6 is a column shift car, as is my Hemi Charger R/T, 440 Six Pack Charger R/T, and an AAR Cuda that I used to own.  I also have friends with original column shift cars like a Hemi Cuda, Cuda 440-6, etc.

Several that I know of have been converted to console shifters after the owners decided the column shifter did not fit the car's image...

Sweet.  Chargers...tonnes of them with columns, too many infact. I knew there were a few bench seat columns, most column shift cars are, it makes sense.  My problem was finding a 440 Magnum 70 Challenger R/T with bucket seats, still haven't seen more than 3 and have yet to run into anyone with solid numbers and info behind it.

Xs - Was your car the one used on the Classic Car DVD? Think I may have asked but can't remember.

No, my car was not used in the DVD.  It is column shift with bucket seats, while the AAR that I sold was column shift with a bench/bucket combo seat.  My Hemi Charger R/T has bucket seats with a center "buddy" seat between them.

I am trying to remember column shift Challenger R/Ts that I have known... darn 51 year old brain!... :clueless: :P
