Mopar engines as exercise motivators?
« on: November 28, 2006 - 04:32:01 PM »
Gotta tell y'all how I slowly got back in gear on the treadmill.  I used to exercise on it nearly every day, but my low back started giving me trouble and I stopped for a while.  When the time came to get back in the routine, I needed a little motivation to move me forward incrementally.  So I came up with a little idea that helped me along. I started out with Mopar's smallest cubic inch engine and have slowly worked my way up the Mopar engine food chain. I use the "calories burned" display to do this.  The total "calories burned' are in a normal 30 minute workout.  I started out kinda easy and managed to get a relatively easy 225 (as in /6 CI) calories burned.  I slowly worked up to 273 burned.  Then 318 and 340, 360 and so on.  I am now in stroker motor territory as I passed the mighty 440 a couple of weeks ago.  Today was 468 burned.  Hopefully I can get up to Beast cubic inch territory, as in 528...  I'll let y'all know....   I guess you have to do whatever it takes, and that was my little motivation helper. I thought I would share it with everyone that ate too much for Thanksgiving..........     :cooldancing:

Thanks Mike....   :2thumbs:

BUT---------------------------when you get my age, you just try and shoot for being alive 6-8 months from now.  I don't count my chickens before they hatch.....      :smokin:    As for a match race, what are we talkin' here, Beast-vs-your Chally,    :burnout:  or a foot race between you and I?  If you are talkin a foot race, I might consider doin' it, but I get sneakers and you must wear a set of pink stiletto's and your pimp outfit.....     :stirpot:   :poopoke:   :roflsmiley:   :smilielol:      :cooldancing:

And here I thought I was the only person that did that!  We usually go to the gym 5 days a week (holiday has been throwing us off this past week).  Being a girl and all I can't push to get the calories you guys can, but on the eliptical I'm a solid big block.  Wait...that didn't sound right...  :smilielol:  I mean, I get to 440 and call it quits.

Good job OS!  Some very clever ingenuity!  Or should I say enginenuity? :2thumbs: On the exercise and the Pimp slam!  :smilielol:  (sorry mike!  :poopoke:) I don't get on any exercise machines, but with these 4 daughters running me ragged, I imagine I'm Burnin' major cubic inches!  :faint:

Not trying to hijack this thread, but I've never heard about mopar/freightliners.  Since I'm into the diesel thing and obviously into the Mopar scene, could you possibly PM me some info about it?  Thanks!

I do 20 x 6 sit ups then go on the treadmill doing an easy jog for 30 minutes which works out at 2.6miles then a 2.5mile (10 minutes) Exercycle 5 days a week.  The amount of beer I drink, I have too! lol Luckily I take good care of my body, well, physically......just have to work on the pack of smokes a day an the booze....Hmmmmm.  :clueless: All up my "workout" is about 1 hour 15 minutes including cool down and shower.

Keep at it Oldschool, it aint easy having the will to go and do this stuff.....I don't really enjoy it though I have AC/DC turned up so it's like a rocking session for me. 5 days a week, drink the weekend, repeat process.

I would have started with the rear end numbers  I think? I could handle 7 1/4 to start with upgrades to 9 within a few months I think.

What gym? I run my butt off enough behind the bar. Then when I get off work I sit my butt on the other side of the bar.

Good job man! :2thumbs:  Keep it going!!!!!  Not only does it make you look better, but it feels GREAT!  :woohoo:

Here's a couple quotes to keep you going......

"A man too busy to take care of his health is like a mechanic too busy to take care of his tools." ~Spanish Proverb

"Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness. " - Earl of Derby

"Our health always seems much more valuable after we lose it."

"Quit worrying about your health. It'll go away." - Robert Orben

"Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it."   - Plato

My wife and I both enjoy working out.  Here is a picutre of our Living room.
