Mopar Performance 360 Short Blocks
« on: November 28, 2006 - 10:51:51 PM »
Anyone here have any experience with the 360 short blocks from Mopar Performance?  They sounded pretty good with cam and timing chain included.  High compression too.  The higher compression engine can be had for about $1350 with shipping included from JEGS. The Dodge dealer I bought my Charger from quoted me $1629 for the same engine. A local engine machine shop quoted me about $1300 just for labor on machining my 360 block.  Seems like the short block would be a better deal.

The also have a 406 LA engine stroker short block too.  That would be cool.

the short block 360 we bought was not worth $.50
lets see before we started it I degreed the cam it was off by 1 tooth as installed , so I went to fix that & the cam was siezed in the rear brg , it seems the rear cam plug  was locktited in with enough locktite to seize the cam so i get the cam out & clean the cam there are slivers of steel behind the cam plate  & brg & cheack all the brg clearances & every brg was totally dry , NO assy lube . So we get the engine installed & fire it up , it overheats on the cam break in we check the coolant & it is totally brown , the block was never properly cleaned ,then we refire it & the cam wipes so out comes the engine to clean it & install a new cam , now the engine shakes liek crazy between 1800- 3000 rpm , lighter pistons used & no balancing so out comes the engine agian to get it balanced ,
Tried to return it , the response was No help from Mopar
spend the extra & just build your block

I agree. It's a great price for a bunch of decent parts..You just have to pay to have it all checked, and if you're lucky, all you need is gaskets...
The MP 406 should be avoided IMO due to lack of quality parts in it. Nevermind if they did happen to assemble them right.

Mopar is currently recycling old 360 blocks for the short blocks, rather than making new ones, and they currently have a shortage of cores, so theyre is currently a lead time of several months on these.
