If you can control that urge you have, you will be glad that you don't have that extra note and full coverage insurance. Nice things are no fun when you have to labor yourself intensively to have them.  It all comes full circle for you eventually anyways. So just hang in there. The only other option I see is let the girfriend risk her credit. But then, you might loose 2 items that way. School first, then toys. But dont over extend yourself. The new wears off fast.

Fix the '77.    :2thumbs:    If you get the newer one, the "new" will wear off shortly and you will be stuck with payments and insurance, and you are right back where you are----a used truck, except the new one has the payments....    :cooldancing:

i'd get the 96 ram. I have a 5 spd, 4wd and luv it.

It's the closest thing to driving a peterbuilt.

Well, I say keep the 77 and fix it up. My brother co-signed on a loan for his " girlfriend" on a new car. She left him, took the car. Then she didn't pay the insurance. Totaled the car . And my brother had to pay for a car he didn't have.  :dunno:

Depends, what do you estimate the "fixing of the 77 truck" will cost? Don't cut the total short, plan for the most it will take you to "restore?" it. If the Ram is $8,000 and it will cost you $6,000 for parts and what-not to fix the 77 then I'd go for the newer and reliable vehicle. Could you sell the 77 to help fund the upgrade? It also depends on just how "tight" your money is. There is doable and then there is self-murder.

I'm sure you'll make the right decision, just take your time and think things through properly. A good idea would be to sit down with your girlfriend, work out your money situation and payments then do a pros and cons list for both options. By the end of that, you should be able to gather which is the correct choice.

Cheers,
Carl

the girl friend part doesn't scare me.. i'll be making the payments ect. in my name and so i mean i'd have the truck..and be paying everything..she just likes it and wants to drive one..which doesn't bother me...its the money which i think i'll just stick to fixing the 77. i'd say to fix the 77 the way i want it'll cost close to 6000 if i do the way i want...but right now i'll just get it going..and i know about full coverage if i didn't have to have it i'd probably lean more towards the newer truck..it'd be doable....not total murder...but i think i'll just wait by then i'll be able to get a 02 instead of a 98 lol...t

Id sell all your toys and buy a 94-97  not a 4x4 and a 5 speed would be better the 518's, they suck and all get rebuilds the nv3500 is no nv4500 but still not a 518.   the powersteering probably leakes and things might need fixed, small stuff, but if u look around u should be able to find one with less than 100k and i wouldnt pay more than 5k ive seen 1997's with 75k go 4 under $5,000.00  just remember 12mpg.  and ur insurance rates will go up.

I paid 5500 for mine 2 years ago put 3k into a rebuild, tires and new parts, still need a few more things fixed but there avalible at the junk yards and easy to work on (besides the distributor) and lots of room.  mine is a Club cab love it. Dont buy a 4x4 u dont need it (u probably have more than 4 inches) u dont have to prove it. more sh!t to break more insurance fees, and worse mpg.   remember more options more potential problems.  my gas guage is broken, reverse light, heater cable and a small oil leak and that ps pump.  only thing that i wish i had would  be suicide doors and green paint teal is ok i guess.

I towed a car and probably 4000k lbs of stuff from phoenix to boise and a packed u haul trailer seattle to indianapolis no problems but it aint no cummins.

nada retail
Low Retail    av Retail     High Retail
TOTAL PRICE   $4,500        $5,775     $6,750

but u can get them cheaper

Check on insurance first, but if u can get the mortgage for under $200.00 month get it.
Dont bring the Woman, surprise her. bring a guy more eyes to c potential problems.

Because when its about 5 above or 0 like it has been here the past couple days, its gotta warm up some, I dont like to drive it right away, its too hard on stuff, thats what I think anyways.  No, I dont drive it harder, its just a fact that all vehicles get worse mileage in winter.  If I knew why, Id tell you  :clueless: :dunno:
