My 1970 Gran Coupe
« on: December 02, 2006 - 08:53:30 PM »
Well my winer project is underway. It's a 1970 Barracuda Gran coupe. Burnt orange, burnt orange interior. Almost all torn down. Lots of unexpected rust issues. But that's a project.

Save MOPARS   junk all the rest...*S*

Nice project to start with.

From what I have seen, it really isn't that rusty compared to some members and what they are faced with.
What areas are the worst?

Looks like a fun project. I have yet to pull the torsion bars and k member out of an e body, how difficult is it?

Is the interior orange?  Looks like a nice project, and doesn't look too rusty.

Getting torsion bars out is really hard in the sense that they are in there super tight.  Putting them back in is a piece of cake.  I took them out of my car to go with torsion bars that are a little more stout than stock.

Thanks. Hey Mopar what are your plans for the car?

Well when I droped the front end. I backed the bolts all the way out that put tension on the torsion bars and pulled the rear clips out of the X-member. and yes they where in there pretty good. I had all bolts out and just had to get the bars out. I use a socket and beat them out towards the front.. they came out decent.
The interior is orange, or origanally orange.. Someone covered alot in red velour.. wow... I hope to have in paint by end of summer.. but things change.... It was orig. a 318 auto on column. someone along the way convereted to a 4 speed and butchered the hump.. I fixed the hump somewhat. and thought why not make it a 383 4 speed car.. I have a 70 hemi 4spd for it... Keeping original color and interior.... vinyl top(blk) and shaker hood, with argent bubble... what ya think???
Think I could make some good power out of a 383?

That sounds like a great plan. You can make plenty of power out of a 383, and a hemi 4 speed will definately support it. There are some threads here on building 383's and Mopar Muscle a couple of months ago had an article on making a pavement pounding 383. I'll see what I can find on that. Keep up posted on the progress.

What-da-ya think gave Ma Mopar her reputation? Sure everyone talks Six Packs and Hemis today, but that's because thay are RARE and consequently now extremely valuable. The 383 was the work horse.

The spot-on factory 335hp rating jumps over 100hp with cam, intake, carb, and header bolt-on upgrades. Good enough power for ya? (Imagine what you could do with a good set of ported aluminum heads!)

Looks like a great project. My 1st e-body was a 70 Gran Coupe , Burnt Orange, Burnt Orange Houndstooth Interior and White Vinyl Top. 383 AT on the floor. I loved that car. Some drunk hit me head-on in it and pushed the frame back a couple inches. I traded it wrecked for another 70 Barracuda. I always wished I would have kept it. Good Luck with yours. :2thumbs:
