Flip top and locking gas cap
« on: December 03, 2006 - 06:02:17 PM »
did the flip top and locking gas cap have a fender tag code?

I suppose many got added after but if it came from the factory would it show on the tag?

I asked Barry this a few days ago he said it would have show up on the broadcast sheet and not the fender tag.

:iagree:    J46 would not appear on the tag.

The exception would be a Challenger T/A since it was included with the A53 package, but still no J46 actually listed on the tag.

Forgive me guys, I deal with 1970 questions day after day and my mind gets stuck in a rut.

J46 is a legitimate 1971 fender tag code.

Sorry for any confusion,
Barry

 No problem Barry.

So its legit for a 71 but not a 70?

Yep. It was an option both years, but it should only be on 1971 fender tags.

Some 1971 coding started to creep into some late 1970 built cars, I will take a look and see if I can spot any just for kicks.........

Guess what? I did find two late 1970 build Challengers with J46 on the tags. The tags look legit.

One more thing for me to start keeping any eye out for.

That cap is original, but there is a rubber cup that attaches to the door that keeps the cap tight & prevents the door rattling...
