First of all, you didn't hurt the thrust washer when it slipped ,did you?

No you don't have to check end play, I just hope you got all thrust washers in the right place. Your endplay will not be accurate and you cannot tell if it is all together right until you have the extension housing on and tight to the case with the snap ring popped into the bearing groove. ( that's why I was having you do that first in the reassembly steps) :naughty:

The output shaft has to be held in it's proper location by the output shaft and rear bearing/snap ring before you can check it.

The thrust washer had a small groove in it, but not torn or anything.  :2thumbs:  It looked pinched just a little.  I replaced all the big thrust washers everywhere.  :jumping:  I made sure there weren't any remaining in the kit.  I will put the housing on now and get that back together and give you an update.  :cooldancing:

Thanks for the other post T, it worked like a charm.  The trani is in and bolted up!  :2thumbs:

I have to get the flex plate lined up though, so I'm taking a break for dinner and I'll head back out after that.  I'm
gonna try to get that bolted in tonight and finish the rest tomorrow.

Getting closer.....  :cooldancing:   :burnout:

When  you get the tranny bolted up to the engine, make sure the convereter can spin freely and the 4 bolt pads are not touching the flexplate.

Gotta bolt up the converter to the flex plate, then the headers, starter, tie-rod ends, valve covers and put fluid in her, then she'll be ready!  :working:  I'm back to only 1 or 2 hours a night, alone, so it may not be until this weekend, but trust me, I want it running tonight!  :2thumbs:   :burnout:

 :swear:   :stomp:   :banghead:

d**n converter won't bolt up to the flexplate and I can't spin the converter to line it up either because there's something (looks like a weight, about 3 inches long) on the converter that grabs the flexplate everytime I try to spin it.  I can crank the motor with a ratchet and socket, but again, that metal peice just grabs the converter and spins it too.  ANY ideas?

This has been a frustrating night for me, I've spent close to 2 hours and accomplished nothing.  I thought I would be able to take down my oil pan and change the gasket, but after removing all the bolts, it won't drop passed the motor mounts. Ugh!  :faint:  Then I have this issue with the converter..........   :swear:  I'm ready to call it a night before I get too frustrated and break something by accident.

Your converter isn't all the way in.  Pull the trans, stand it up on the tailshaft, then spin the converter slowly till it drops down one more step.  You should be able to spin the converter in there without touching the flexplate.   Then pull it towards the engine to ptighten the bolts.

sorry, but that is the only way to get it all the way in.

yeah, I was affraid of that......the biggest problem I face now is I am alone....so getting the converter to sit all the way isn't the issue, but getting it bolted back onto the trani will be.   :faint:

I'll figure it out tomorrow.

I bought a $49 trans jack from Harbor Freight that I use to put trannies in by myself. To lock the converter all the way in, while installing, I use a wrench to hold it in there till all of the bellhousing bolts are back in.  Here's a pic of my wrench. That'll hold the converter all the way in till you are ready for it to move.

Ok, I took my trani out again (yes I'm off work again today...  :woo:), and reset the converter.  here's some pics of it, I think it went in 3 times, the first one wasn't all that big, but the 2nd two were significant drops.  Does this look right?  Also, any ideas on how to keep the converter from slipping out besides what Rob suggested?  no offense rob, but I don't have those wrenches and I'm trying to utilize my time today  and work on this instead of buying some.
