RT/SE filler panel color?
« on: December 07, 2006 - 10:42:05 PM »
I've seen the SE tail light filler panel in both argent and black, which is correct?  I've been told one color is the replacement version but for an original 1970 car does anyone know  which color they left the factory with?

That's the same as mine, I kind of wanted to repaint it even though it doesn't look bad but I'm not sure how the match that color. anyone found any restoration paint to do that ? maybe a guy have to get something mixed.

You can get that dark argent paint in a spray can. I got it from  totallyautoinc.com

When we bought our car, our panel was black.  During the resto, I wanted to see if there was anything underneath that black paint...there was nothing.  No sign of ANY other paint.  We called Totally Auto, they said they have seen both black and argent original panels and could not give us a definitive answer as to what it should be.  We stayed with the black because there really was no sign of any kind of resto on the panel and we liked the black better on our car.  RustySE was kind enough to give us an NOS panel and it is the argent color.  :dunno:

Thanks guys, I was wondering about the dark argent that totallyauto sells for the ralleye wheel caps like you said. that color looks real close to what I have, the black would look good with the bumble bee stripe though....if either could be correct that's a tuffy.

Is it possible that the choice of black or argent is dependant on the color scheme of the car? Or even when it was produced, as with the shaker bubbles?

Just a thought.

So, DY3 was a blah-ish tan? Heh.

Well... it WAS the 70's after all. :-)

Yep.  But, it was more of a bla-ish cream.  I'm told it is a very rare color...but, now we all know why.

The color is the Argent Gravel silver as Chrysler called it.  It is the same as the textured silver paint used on the 71 Challenger grille.  The way I have seen original cars over the years is black for an R/T S/E unless it had a black bumblebee stripe.  S/E only cars and R/T S/E cars with the bumblebee stripe were the textured silver.

Is the argent gravel silver close to the same color as the dark argent used on the 71 up ralley wheel centers?   totallyauto has the dark argent but I don't know where you'ld find the gravel color.  what you said about the different models and colors would explain alot.

I've never heard that...but it makes sense.  Thanks for the info!
