Any AMX People Here???
« on: December 09, 2006 - 04:09:21 PM »
i'm considering taking a 70 AMX as partial trade toward my Cuda. Its a 360 4/speed with go pack option. Matching numbers engine and trans, car is painted an incorrect color. I have valued the car at 20k, he is looking at 25k, so i would appreciate anyones input on this or knowledge on value of these cars. I check ebay and carsonline but not much for sale so its hard to get an idea. Also has anyone seen these type of roof and trunk spoilers before??? i have not. Does anyone know where the VIN stampings on the block are???Thanks in advance, Mark

The roof spoiler looks like it came off of a 69 Javelin. Don't know about the 360 though.

I thought they all came with a 390 or something like that.  Never heard of one with a 360 especially in 1970??   :clueless:

Cool car . . . I like!

I know they did come with a 290 as well as the 390.
I'll have send this link to my brother as I'm sure he knows the answers and he is an AMX guy from way back.

Pretty sure the three motors were the 290 (or something around that displacement), the 343 and the 390...

In that year motors would be 290-343-390. Spoilers do not look correct to me  :clueless: They made them around these parts, but I admit my memory was better a few beers ...ahh I mean years ago.

I have too much time on my hands.

Roof spoiler looks legit, not sure about the rear one.  Pix on these links.

Always loved AMX.  Not as much as E bodies, but they are quirky.
That one in your post looks really nice.  I'd love it.

Here is a cut and paste from an e-mail my brother sent me back.

The guy should just check on E-Bay and look at other AMX's. The 1970 has
the lowest production #'s of the 2 seater cars and the 70 engines were
304'360&390 AMX would have one of the larger motors.Of the 4000+ cars
most would have fresh air hood [funtional] . The GO-PAK was "twin grip"
and over the top dual stripes about 4" wide each. As for the spoiler
they were mostly on '69 "BIG BAD" cars. One from a javelin would not fit
on an AMX [different contour on roofline]. 1970 AMX could of had this
but VERY rare and both bumpers would have been body color. In very mint
condition it's value would be around 14-16000$.

Per my AMC guy (that just looked at this posting) the roof spoiler is corect it is Tans-Am.

The rear spoiler he thought was aftermarket, or not correct.

If he gives more info I will let you know.  I am sending the link to him

From what I gathered from my AMX/Javelin SST neighbor, the AMX could have had a Mark Donohue rear spoiler on it, but it's more of a sculpted spoiler and doesn't stick up like that one does.  I'd say for how clean it is the car should be around $18-20,000.00, but JS27N0B's brother's figures may need to be put into perspective as he's an AMX guy who sounds like he knows his stuff.  Still a cool little car as I've seen and been in several before and they're pretty fun. ('68 all-original 290-4 speed AMX, '69 SST Javelin with a 343 as well as one with a 390.)  One great idea that comes to my mind is check into the AMC national club...I've met the club president from the Wisconsin area and I'm sure they'd be able to help you out with your decision. (this guy has an S/C Rambler as well as a prototype AMX that was a frankenstein car...had the rear end of an AMX with a Mark Donohue spoiler, yet had fenders that were eventually used in the newer Javelins with the bulged fenders.)
