I had 3 challys and a 70 cuda in the early 80's. About 6 months ago I saw an add in craigslist for a 72 chally for $2,500.00 from the pics it looked pretty good. It had the engine and drive train. Turned out it was 15 mins from my house in a garage. After looking at it and undecided because it had been a parts car. The 4 speed hump was cut out of it, it needed a ton of sheet metal repair, had a Monaco dash gauges, steering column, and bench seat in it, no title and too many problems to list. Talked the guy down to 2300.00. Decided to take a friend of mine with me that restores mustangs for a living to look at it and give me the lowdown. After looking at it he tells me if you want a Challenger I have a friend that has a 70 that has been sitting in his shop for 7 years. He had replaced the rear quarters and mini tubbed it. The car was virtually rust free except the quarters he had replaced. No motor or trans. He wanted 12,000 for it and the built 440 he had for it. I talked him down to 7,000 from 8,500 for just the car. The car had been in a shop 10 minutes from my house for all those years. It just goes to show you something you have been looking for for awhile might be right under you nose. Now 6 months later and a few (quite a few) dollars more I have the engine and tranny ready for it, a new rearend with a positrac chunk (no more mini tubbs), the bumpers rechromed, most of the interior, and car ready for paint. I am hoping to be driving it this fall. Never would have believed this car was sitting 10 minutes from my house all those years waiting onme to find and bring it back to life.
