I had 3 challys and a 70 cuda in the early 80's.  About 6 months ago I saw an add in craigslist for a 72 chally for $2,500.00 from the pics it looked pretty good.  It had the engine and drive train.  Turned out it was 15 mins from my house in a garage.  After looking at it and undecided because it had been a parts car.  The 4 speed hump was cut out of it, it needed a ton of sheet metal repair, had a Monaco dash gauges, steering column, and bench seat in it, no title and too many problems to list.  Talked the guy down to 2300.00.  Decided to take a friend of mine with me that restores mustangs for a living to look at it and give me the lowdown.  After looking at it he tells me if you want a Challenger I have a friend that has a 70 that has been sitting in his shop for 7 years.  He had replaced the rear quarters and mini tubbed it.  The car was virtually rust free except the quarters he had replaced.  No motor or trans.  He wanted 12,000 for it and the built 440 he had for it.  I talked him down to 7,000  from 8,500 for just the car.  The car had been in a shop 10 minutes from my house for all those years.  It just goes to show you something you have been looking for for awhile might be right under you nose.  Now 6 months later and a few (quite a few) dollars more I have the engine and tranny ready for it, a new rearend with a positrac chunk (no more mini tubbs), the bumpers rechromed, most of the interior, and car ready for paint.  I am hoping to be driving it this fall. Never would have believed this car was sitting 10 minutes from my house all those years waiting onme to find and bring it back to life.

my dad bought it in 82 off of the original owner... he drove it around but then the family got bigger so in 88 he stored it with a new 440... bought himself a truck and left it stored for 20 years .... then 2008 came along ... i had the money so i decided to restore it with my pop ... and the rest is history ...

A Mopar club member showed up to a show & shine with this worn out 71 Challenger with a cheap white paint job.  He saw it sitting on the side of the road with a "For Sale" sign in the window and immediately bought it.  The sheetmetal was in very good shape, but it needed a total mechancal restoration and paint.  I fell in love with it right off and told him if he ever wanted to sell it to give me a call.  About 8 months later, on December 22nd he called and said his wife put her foot down and he needed to sell the Challenger so he could finish his Cuda.  He wanted to give me first shot at it.  I got a great Christmas present that year  :bananasmi

We were driving by a local Dealership in 1971 and a bright orange barracuda with a white rag top caught our eye, so you know we just had to stop and check it out. Decided we needed one, so we ordered one with a 383. Somehow we have managed to keep it all these years.

Well mine is a story that is just a tad bit different!!!  I did not find my car......it found me!!!   You see, on two occasions in 2006 I purchase 5 raffle tickets (total of 10) for a fully restored 1971 Dodge Challenger with a fully rebuilt 440 engine (.040 over).  On December 1, 2006 at roughly 12:00 noon my ticket was selected as the winner of the car.   :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :cooldancing: :cooldancing: :cooldancing: :cooldancing: :cooldancing: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: First time I had ever won anything.......

Wow, great score and great color. I enter a lot of car raffles, but nothing yet. Not like I have the space for another car or anything.

You didn't state what the raffle tickets cost you, but I'll give you double that for the car.    :misbehaving:

Hello MEK-Dangerfield,

Well....it was lot!!!  I just about broke my bank account buying the tickets.  You could buy 1 for $5.00 or 5 for $20.00.  So I saved my money for several months between my two purchases at $20.00 dollars each time for a total of $40.00.  I looked into financing the $40.00 but interest rates were to high  :roflsmiley: :roflsmiley:.

Now, back to your offer of double what I gave for it.  I bet you would along with every other member of Cuda-challenger forum.  Sorry cant do it.....

Its my first muscle car ever....and so far I love it.

Take care....
